Nice. I can't beat you lol.

    • +2

Just lucky timing. And had a draft post ready to go 🏃

      • +2

I can see you had a draft - This one's not a rugby deal, although it is in my beloved Crusaders colours!

Some rugby deals from Kogan Mobile. Available to both new and existing customers.

        • 😅 rushed to post before my meeting started

          • @Wakrak: Your small and medium monthly calcs are out by 1c a month. :) 12c a year… almost enough for well nothing..

          • +1

@Wakrak: I blame fire alarm at work during the time you posted. Haha.

  • +7

This is the level of pricing nz mobile plans should be. We get fleeced too often!

  • +2

Would this be the best pricing they do?
Last year the small plan was $80 for 365 days. this year its $112, quite a big jump.

    • +1

50% off or BOGOF is the best they do.
In this promo they are still offering 50% off on the Large plan, just smaller amounts as a percentage for Small and Medium.
They may offer another deal next month but you would be taking your chances and no guarantees it will be any better (or offered at all)

    • This is the same deal as when I got it few months ago (well, it was a BOGOF so $330 for two sims on large plan).

I'm happy to pay this as it turns out to be $13.75/month with 15Gb data and unlimited call/text. Was playing $17/month before on 2Gb data. The only downside is that you pay the amount upfront and the inability to reply to premium number but otherwise happy so far.

      • Do you know if we can top-up or credit our account to pay for replying to premium numbers or it is technically impossible to reply to premium numbers with Kogan sims? Thanks

        • +1

Kogan doesn't offer txts to premium numbers at all, unfortunately. They don't keep a credit balance or anything of that sort to pay it from.
          https://help.koganmobile.co.nz/hc/en-us/articles/36003290267…

        • +1

Yeah, like HollowBones said can't do at all. But for some strange reason not all premium numbers are blocked?

I couldn't reply to 3230 for example, but for some reason 4852 accept my reply.

          • +2

@spam: Some services also pay for the cost of replies to shortcodes and others don't, I suspect that has alot to do with it.

(btw who sends out messages requiring a 'stop' reply and does not pay for replies.. pretty crap)

            • +1

@Dunno: The same companies that expect you to pay to confirm your booking to save them time and money.

            • @Dunno: Spotlight does!

          • +6

@spam: That's becuase 3230 costs money to reply to but 4852 does not.

Here's a list of premium short codes that say whether they cost to send or not

    • +1

I agree.. now its a gamble. I kept a phone alive on the $80 plan last year - but doesnt expire till start of Feb - so by renewing I will lose about a month or so - but will they wont they come out with a better deal in a few weeks. Seems a reasonable jump given the other plans are the effectively the same.

Can anyone suggest the cheapest prepaid plan to keep a phone alive which doesnt involve monthly topups - ie long expiry's just to keep a backup phone in a holiday home that would be rarely used most of the year, but a little used for say a few random weeks.

      • +2

Warehouse mobile is only a $5 minimum topup and the credit lasts a year.
You could then buy one of the talk&txt or data packs when you actually wanted to use it.

  • +1

Thanks been waiting for this one.

  • Thanks OP. Waiting for this Black Friday sale since October.

  • Having purchased the similar plan this time last year and switching over to Kogan, if I buy this can I just 'top up' my yearly plan continue using the same number?

    • +1

You can keep your number but it won't 'top up' your current plan.
The moment you activate the new voucher you will start your 365 days again.
If you still have time remaining then wait to activate (either until your current plan runs out or before 31st Dec when the voucher expires).
Just make sure you purchase the voucher before 27th Nov.

      • Sorry, that's what I meant.

  • "Sorry, we can't find the page you're looking for."

Can't buy as an existing customer, hopefully they fix it soon.

    • +1

True! However I went through the link OP provided, and at checkout you are asked if you’d like to continue as a guest or login, I was able to log in as a current customer.

If worried about not being able to use the voucher as an existing customer, see this support article to ease your mind: https://help.koganmobile.co.nz/hc/en-us/articles/36003254935…

  • Has anyone done Kogan Mobile Prepay Mobile Starter Pack at $5 every 30 days?

    • +1

not usable for current customer, you need a new number every time

    • +1

Will need a new sim/phone number and a new email every 30 days.

    • +2

Have done it for people visiting us from overseas. Worked well. Bear in mind it can take 2 weeks to arrive.

      • Surely it'll come from MightyApe now, so perhaps the turnaround has become quicker?

        • Nope, I ordered 2, one day apart. First one arrived after ~1 week, second one is still underway after almost 2 weeks.

  • Same here, got 6 days left from last year :| !! perfect !!

  • i LOVE your work! perfect timing since my plan will expired in december

  • Expires end of the year, however my plan carries on till end of Jan…this will pretty much mean I have to forfeit a month that I have already paid for. not really ideal

    • That's correct.
      Your options are either:

      • Forfeit the month you have remaining and buy this deal, waiting until the end of Dec to redeem.
      • Take your chances that another deal will be offered next month or in January before your plan expires.
      • Do nothing and change providers or pay the current rate when your plan expires.
      • +1

Exactly my situation. Im going to take the boxing day gamble I think. Mainly because the smaller plans are not such a good deal as they have been previously at the moment.

    • +1

They usually have a Christmas/boxing Day sale if you want to wait

  • I just bought 180GB/365 days for $250 on 18th October from Kogan mobile. I have not activated it. Is it possible I return it and then buy this one? Anyone has an idea? Thx!

    • Reach out to their customer service team and see what they reckon.

    • +1

I would doubt it but no harm in asking them.

    • I think it's pretty unlikey, your credit card may offer price protection policy you can claim on but it often must be claimed within 30 days and theres often a bunch of exclusions

  • +1

True. Just give it a try although I have little hope. Their customer service is very bad based on my previous experiences.

    • Oh no, does that mean if I grab a plan and have any issues with it, that their service is worse than what Vodafone used to be?

      • Yes unfortunately.
Everything is online so cross your fingers you don’t run into issues.
In saying that, they are a budget provider and represent good value. I’ve had no problems with my kids mobiles for the past few years.

        • Thanks bigcheese

        • Well, yesterday I managed to stuff up the teleporting of my number and I can't find their live chat anywhere. Says its on the bottom of the page (but I haven't found anything clickable).
I didn't know I was supposed to keep the old SIM card in and missed the txt from One NZ (with a 2 hour deadline) to reply 'yes' to transfer the number. I can't re-request it either as it's still 'processing'. Where is this Live Chat please?
So mad at myself but this is the first time I've ever switched.

      • when was the last time you had to contact your mobile provider?

        • Ages ago now, but did have some teething problems

  • -1

How long do you have to activate the code?

    • +1

Purchase by 27/11/23 and activate by 31/12/23

  • Great work, thanks! What happened to that new Extra Large Plan?

    • +1

It's not new but is not normally available in NZ.
They have only offered it a few times since Kogan has been in NZ.

Our mates across the ditch have the Extra Large plan as standard, just not us unfortunately.
Also, they get much more data by plan size in Oz (and also have the option to get the years worth of data upfrot rather than each month)
      Small - 10Gb, Medium - 17Gb, Large - 25Gb, Extra Large 40Gb

      • +2

We have monthly extra large plan($55). Just not offered as yearly plan.

      • Thanks, we understand the issue with lower data plans. If you want more data, our mates at Mighty Ape (Mighty Mobile) have unlimited plans with amazing prices too

        • Sorry, I was referring to their 365 day plans to give a like for like comparison.
On the monthly plan option you can get 80Gb.

  • ah fook just bought the medium plan at regular price yesterday

    • +1

I did the same thing yesterday without knowing there was a LARGE plan! I am having a hard time cancelling my MEDIUM - dont suppose anyone here has any phone number for their NZ team? AU team cant support us kiwis (tried to no joy) - they will most likely take 10 days to cancel my order via help center request haha

      • sorted found an online chat https://help.koganmobile.co.nz/hc/en-us

        • Will have to give it a try haha hope it isn't shipped yet

      • Still waiting on a refund. Their customer support is horrendous. Follow up every second day and they are clueless - be prepared for headaches if something goes wrong with kogan mobile Nz.

  • Thanks, bought the Large since mine expires in December

  • Has anyone ditched their fibre or wifi plans and gone unlimited data on just the cellphone for hotspotting? Just need to web browse and run the Chromecast for the tv.

    • +1

They all have a fair use policy as far as I know. Not going to work if you are watching lots of videos on a large screen as they just implement bandwidth throttling

  • Thanks Wakrak,

Grabbed the large plan. Been debating joining Kogan each time they reduce the plans each year. Finally ditching Spark

  • Any chance of a 2-for-1 offer for them on some of their plans at Black Friday, or Christmas? hmm

    • +1

This is their Black Friday offer so I would say no to anything else this month (although I don't have a crystal ball!)
They usually do anothert offer in December but who knows whether it will happen or not.
If you're after a Large plan then I suggest you go for this one as it won't get any better than 50% off and you can wait until 31st Dec to activate.

  • +1

Damn, too bad their Medium plans are no longer 50% off. Bought it last year for $125. At $150 now, I might as well go for the Large plan for an extra $15, which I'm guessing is what they're trying to get people to do. Oh well.

    • same with the small plan, which was $80 same time last year.

  • Existing customer needing help

Let my old small pre paid 365 plan expire and have just brought the large

What do I need to do to activate it?

Do I need another Kogan sim?

Must I end the previous small prepay plan?

It’s not working when I log in to renew with the new large but I am trying to use my same phone number

Very frustrating and I’d appreciate some help in stead of bouncing around in the Kogan help page

    • +1

You don't need a new SIM if you already have one from Kogan.
You also don't need to end your current plan but keep in mind that the moment you activate the new plan it will start from now - it doesn't add time to the old one.
If your plan has ended already that's fine too as your number with Kogan stays active for 90 days post expiry, you just won't be able to make calls/txt/use data until you renew.

In terms of activation you should be able to login to your existing acount and then choose 'Renew or Buy Prepay Plan'. Then select 'I have an email with a voucher code' and input the code you received.

      • Seemed to not load this way @bigcheese so had a spare Kogan sim and it worked like magic.

Appreciate the support though 😉 none the less

        • That's weird. I've done it this way for a few years with my kids plans.
If you used a new SIM does that mean you have lost your exisiting phone number?

          • @bigcheese: Yes that’s exactly what it meant I lost my old number x but that was algoods by me - last plan ran out in Sep and it just wasn’t loading everytime I entered voucher and cc details it would stop loading so this way means it’s activated right now

  • This is an amazing deal! Wish I could utilise this but I’m stuck with spark as they are the only provider that provides connection for the Apple Watch.

  • How much time kogan take to deliver sim card in wellignton

Can use 5 dollar one month plan and then topup the 12 month plan with cod

  • How much time kogan take to deliver sim card in wellignton

Can use 5 dollar one month plan and then topup the 12 month plan with coupon code provided

    • +1

Pretty sure it comes from Auckland, so it should be next day or within 2 days. Yes, you can top it up with the 12 month plan either after the 1 month is up, or before hand (but you'll lose the time left from the 1 month).

  • Thanks

  • How do you keep your number with Kogan; what step in the process do you need to apply to do so?

    • +1

When you have received the SIM card go to:
      https://accounts.koganmobile.co.nz/activate/

Enter the details asked for and then choose "Yes, Transfer (Port) Existing Number"

      • Thanks!

      • Hey - when I set it up last night (SIM took ages to arrive) I requested a number port. The site tells me it normally takes 4 hours but it has been pending since last night. Any thoughts on how long I should wait? Have had my number for 20 years so am keen to keep it!

        • I would contact them as that seems a long time to process a port request.
Do you still have service from your old provider?

          • @bigcheese: Yeah I did at the moment. Really odd but wanted to sense check. Cheers!

  • Pretty quick and easy process, ordered on Sunday 19th Nov and received it on Saturday 25th Nov. Activated and started the number porting process. Sim started working almost instantly with the original number and the number was ported in about 3 hours to my previous number. Used it around Auckland and no issues with 4G/5G coverage. Saved me a lot of money in this coming year. Thank you

    • Ordered 2 Sims on the 24th - still nothing :(

      • Ordered few for the extended family the same day as you and they haven't got it either. Probably because they had a large order numbers towards the end of the offer.

  • Reminder - Last day today to buy this for anyone who has been thinking it over. You then have until the 31st Dec to activate the voucher.

    • Seems like it's still available

      • That often happens but it is likely to disappear at any time.

  • I entered the wrong email - does the voucher come via email :/

    • +1

Yes the voucher comes by email.
It usually arrives only a short time after you place the order

Message them and say you entered the wrong email address. I actually did the same thing a while back and they sent me new code.

  • @Wakrak this seems to be live again - https://www.kogan.com/nz/koganmobile/

    • Do you get "Sorry, we can't find the page you're looking for." when clicking on buy now?
