  • "Unlimited data is for personal mobile phone use only". Damn, otherwise I can get thisplan and cancel my broadband.

    • +1

Includes hotspot, so you could, I bought the half price for 3 months deal a while back and have been using it in a router in my caravan.

  • +1

Can I cancel after 3 months?

  • I'm guessing the is no valid reason to grab any plans below the $80 one?

Buy the most expensive one and then drop down to a lower one after 3 months if you plan on sticking around?

    • Only reason is consider dropping to a lower plan would be to see if it works for you speed wise when it goes to full price before you spend money to move permanently.

Think I'll pick up a pair of these and stick it in as a second Sims for us. Really useful to let rollover accumulate on a prepaid plan then just bin it in 3 months.

  • Oh you need to pay shipping for the Sim card

    • +1

Make a new account and sign up for the primeape free trial, makes shipping free. Just make sure you cancel the membership after.

      • Can someone confirm it works with Primate free delivery? I've never used it before so I don't know much about it. On the one hand it does say eligible for Primate free delivery. OTOH, the Primate page mentions a minimum order value of $10 so does this mean you need to order 10 of them or is it only normal items that have a minimum order value of $10?

        • +1

I set up a Primate free trial and made an order for 2x SIM cards/plans last night.
It went through at a total of $2 with free shipping so yes it does work.

          • @bigcheese: Thanks! It worked for me too. Didn't want to sign up for Primate if it didn't work in case Mighty Ape limit free trials in some way.

    • Also ships direct from the supplier so you can't even buy something else to make the most of the shipping charge. Adding anything else to the cart they sting you another delivery charge.

  • Looks like no contract?so can be cancelled After 3 month?

    • They're prepaid plans, so there shouldn't be any contract. Just turn off autorenewal after your second renewal and you should be fine. (Unless you're abandoning this early, I wouldn't turn it off before your second renewal. It's possible turning it off will be enough to cancel the deal.)

      • That's exactly what I plan to do - abandon early.
I have some relatives coming over in January to visit from overseas and the $1 plans are perfect for them for their two weeks here. As soon as they leave I will turn off the auto renewal and delete the Wise card associated with the plan.

      • Thanks appreciate that

  • Would this work in a 4g Router? I know it says, 'Personal mobile phone use only', so I'm guessing not.

    • +1

Works for me, haven't had any issues.

      • I have a Huawei 4G router (Model: B315s-608) that used to connect with Skinny. Do I just pop the new SIM card into the router? Anything else to change? Thanks!

        • +1

Yep, should be able to just pop it in. I was using that same router with a Kogan sim previously and didn't have any issues. There might have been a fiddle with the APN settings but I can't remember (can dig it out and have a look). Some routers can be locked to a provider, but my one was initially with Spark and it didn't seem to care.

Probably won't be able to use the free calling by dialing out through a plugged in handset (upgraded to the 525 for that - even gets text messages somehow).

          • @MartinPrince: Hey, just about to order a mighty mobile Sim for a spark router too, is it still working for you?

            • @mikebb: Yep, haven't had any issues, aside from MM billing me at the full whack and not the half price that I should have been on. Customer service has been good though.

Just have to change the APN to the One NZ one. Did have a PM with someone here using an unbranded router and it wouldn't work for them, so ymmv.

  • -1

got eight, hopefully it will be like the kogan specials where it ships with the plan as a voucher with an expiry date. anybody know which carrier is mighty mobile on? spark or one?

    • One - same as Kogan

    • Terms say you must activate in 3 months, I guess buy now, activate one then in 2.9 months activate a replacement

      • thats how i play it usually

    • What has your experience been like with Mighty Mobile so far? I'm looking at possibly switching from Skinny

      • +1

So far I've found this great, mainly as having unlimited data again I forgot how nice it is being carefree with your phone when out and about.

Seen some ridiculous speeds as well, in not inclined to speed test spark I'm on finite data but cleared 900mbps on the top plan in some locations with mighty mobile. Only downfall was driving Christchurch to Timaru the reception was patchier than the spark Sim in the same phone.

  • Is this a postpaid or prepay I'm a bit confused?

    • +1

Mighty Mobile say prepay everywhere, they don't offer postpaid AFAICT. I think people are getting confused because the deal talks about recurring monthly plan renewals. But this isn't different from something like Kogan. And even the big 3 have something similar with their weekly, fortnightly, 28 day or monthly plans or packs etc.

  • How long does it take for the Sim card to arrive?

    • Seems to be a while. They claimed it shipped like minutes after I ordered, I assume it's because it's shipped by someone else (probably BrightPoint who do Kogan, Contact, etc) and should arrive before 28-29. However unless it was stolen, still hasn't arrived for me.

      • I ordered 2x SIMs on the 26th Nov with an ETA of 28-29 Nov. My order did arrive on the 29th - however there was only one SIM not two.
Not sure if they were meant to be shipped together or separately but I’ll have to chase if it doesn’t turn up today.

        • Was it Courier or Post? It says Courier but wondering if that's just confusion due being shipped by a third party. (But $5.95 seems a little expensive for post.)

Ordered mine around 1000 on 27 but hasn't arrived yet, and my normal NZ Post courier already delivered an AliExpress order so don't think it's showing up today if it's courier. Slight chance it could be in evening.

          • @Nil Einne: Pretty sure it was CourierPost on the label.
Label said 1 of 1, although there are two shipping invoices in the order history. Both say ‘Dispatched’ but none say delivered so it is all over the place.

I know Kogan would send two SIMs in one envelope so assumed Mighty Ape would do the same.

            • @bigcheese: Did you receive a tracking number before delivery?

            • @bigcheese: I thought Kogan did send me SIMs separately even though they were in a single order. Can't remember for sure though, and this was back in late 2020 or early 2021 I believe.

              • @Nil Einne: Actually you might be right about Kogan - it’s been a while since I ordered their SIMs too.

I’m happy to wait another couple of days to see if the other order shows up.

              • @Nil Einne: My other SIM has arrived.
                Definitely CourierPost.

                • @bigcheese: Is the mobile number allocated on activation of SIM card?

                  • @Peter Wyngarde: I assume so.
Can’t see it printed on the SIM packaging anywhere like you would normally see on other SIMs I’ve had.
I don’t plan to activate yet as it’s not required until January.

                  • @Peter Wyngarde: The number was definitely part of the registration process and I couldn't see it in the Sim pack.

We ordered 4 Sim cards(2 each for 3+3 months of use in dual Sim phones) and they all came in individual envelopes via courier post. Ordered last Saturday and came yesterday (Thursday). Ended up buying primate as we also got something from mighty ape that had a primate deal going so we saved the membership fee back already.

                    • @Everettpsycho: Yes the new number was disclosed after I didn't port my existing number.

It would be good to know the exact date to activate the second SIM card.

            • @bigcheese: Ordered 23:45 27/11. Collected 15:56 28/11. Delivered 17:28 30/11. 2 × DL envelopes with CourierPost labels. Shipped ex Brightpoint in Auckland to Christchurch.

  • How is the plan allocated? Is it attached to the sim? Or the email?

    • +2

Must be to the SIM as you don't have to use the same email. Actually since from what I understand, One is actually running the website which probably means they're running the signup process, there might be data sharing issues if Mighty Ape gives your email to Mighty Mobile

  • +1

Just a reminder to all that if you signed up for a 2 week Primate free trial it's probably ending soon, or already ended depending on when you signed up so remember to cancel if you don't plan to use it any more.

  • Curious for anyone that took this deal, when do we need to activate the cards by? It says 3 months but doesn't say a date anywhere of when that timer started. I've got a second one waiting to be registered but want to register it as late as possible as it's just being used for it's data in a dual Sim phone.
