Looking for the Best Sky Diving Recommendations

I am interested in skydiving and I need some advice on how to choose the best options.

I want to find the best options for quality and price. Please share your recommendations for the best places, heights, and companies to skydive with. Also, let me know if there are any ways to save money or get good deals.

Also, if there is anything I should look out for. I will want the camera footage, so I need to factor it into the cost.

I don’t mind the location, just whether it is worth it.

I would like to know how different options compare to others.

I would also like to hear from anyone who has done skydiving before.

Thank you.

One with parachute would be preferable.

Yes, to start with until red bull sponsors me.

  • SI or NI?

    • Either is fine, I am open to travelling and distance is not a restriction.

I can put it on my bucket list and wait to do it once I get there or when I am close to the area.

I am not super time limited, but this is just something for me to keep in mind if I am in the area. As well as influencing the planning of places I want to travel to. I just eventually want to do all the best skydives in the country.

I am also not limited to just one and looking to do a couple all over the country.

  • Are you looking to do a tandem or learn to skydive?

    • I am looking for tandems right now, but am open to learning myself in the future.

    • Actually, after doing some research, learning to skydive sounds like a really great idea.
      Thanks so much.

Do you have any advice on this?

  • My son wanted to go skydiving for his 14th birthday, so I took him out to Skydive Auckland in Parakai. They have a great facility there and he had a blast. He did the 13,000', but they also do 16,000' and 18,000' tandem, the highest in NZ (45, 60 and 75 seconds freefall respectively, they claim). Very happy with them.

    • Any reason you choose them? Just because they were closest or something else?

Also, any reason you went with the 13k? I think the 16k might be the sweet spot.

      • Yeah, we went with the cheapest option and the closest, but they also had very good reviews. We were more wanting him to have the experience, an extra 15 seconds was neither here nor there, and I wasn't even sure if he was going to like it - But of course he loved it.

Another option you might want to consider before the big jump: iFly. I've done this in Sydney before and it was unreal, and much cheaper than the real thing. You get a whole lot more airtime for a lot less money. Plus you don't need to go tandem your first few times 😉

        • Thanks, I will see if there are any skydiving courses that can be completed within a few weeks as they are not much more per jump.

          I saw iFly in Queenstown

Personally, I thought it was a joke. Just floating around in the air. I am more looking for the thrill of jumping out of a plane, which is what I find to be the valuable, life-changing, eye-opening aspect of skydiving. The kind of thing that opens your eyes to the fragility of life. Maybe I am extrapolating a bit, but the thrill is what I am going for.

          Thanks for the suggestion though.

I did it it Paihia I think. Skydive bay of islands. 18k feet tandem for $260 10 years ago.
But couldn’t have had a better view from above.

I've done Queenstown and Taupo. I think Taupo is a pretty classic choice. All it really comes down to is the height and view. Doing Queenstown in winter would get you a pretty epic view. Similarly Taupo in summer is pretty nice. The higher the better to maximise the time free falling. Also if you get a nice guide they let you man the control of the parachute coming down which is really fun - can do some epic spins. I don't know if you've bungee jumped before, but I find it a bit more thrilling - especially somewhere like the Nevis in Queenstown.

    • I have done a bungee in Queenstown before. From what I've seen online, skydiving feels like flying whereas bungee feels like falling.

I did the one near Mt Hutt, and totally recommend it. The scenery that you are diving over is awesome.
