Tyre Warranty issues

Hello all! I bought 4 brand new Dunlop tyres in April 2021 and only done 25000km on the new tyres. Went to do the WOF the other day and it failed as one tyre has lots of cracks on it. I went back to beaurepaires manukau. They contacted the supplier and told me dunlop has moved to Australia. The new supplier doesn't want to do anything as they did sell the tyre.

What rights do I have? A tyre should normally last at least 5 year. I don't want to be out of the pocket as the tyre is obviously faulty. How should I go about it? Is there organisation I can make a complaint to? Thanks

The Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) says clearly that the buck stops with the retailer who supplied you with the product, not the manufacturer. Go to them and insist that they replace any tyres that have failed a WOF. Google "Consumer Guarantees Act" for more information.

The retailers is the one who should be responsible, consumers shouldn't be asked to talk to the manufacturer or supplier.

tyres have dates on them of manufacture. Find that. It might be of use.

If beaurepaires manukau (a tyre specialist) contacted the supplier to arrange replacement then that's an acknowledgement and acceptance it was a premature failure. Under CGA the retailer has the obligation by law to remedy.

I had tyre issues and ended up going to the disputes tribunal. If you do follow through and attempt to use the CGA, I wish you luck.
My adjudicator sided quite obviously with the supplier who was given a lot more 'air time' than I was. Unless you can find something from somewhere that gives an expected life, e.g. km or number of years you may really struggle. The company I was up against even went after my character - they'd trawled my instagram (apparently to "look for information about tyre wear") and as I had posted a photo of my car in a carpark on the Port Hills in Chch, I was automatically a boy racer with no right of reply. I hope you have better luck than I did!

What in the world! That sounds straight out of better call Saul.

      • That's what it felt like! Going into I had no idea how it would go. Within the first minute or two it was clear I had been allocated to someone with no knowledge of understanding of tyres/cars, (nor social media) and it was basically over at that point.

    I’m in the tyre industry

Tyres have manufacturing dates, check the date on the tyres. Dunlop have a 5 year standard warranty from the manufacture date.

Secondly, Beaurepaires (Advantage now) took your money not Dunlop, the onus is on them to sort the warranty with Dunlop.

Thank you all for being so helpful! I went back and mentioned CGA. The guy said they didn't manufacture the tyre and still trying to brush me off. I insisted they are responsible for this. He then told me he needs to contact head office to get approval. I got the number of the head office manager and called him myself. So they booked me in to get the tyre checked tomorrow and hopefully it will get sorted. Thanks again!

    • Hey, Just curious what year the manufacturing date of the tires you purchased was

Not sure. I think it was 2020 if I remember correctly.
