Valve Steam Deck 512GB $1199, 256GB $999, 64GB $899 + Shipping ($0 with Primate) @ Mighty Ape

60

I think this is the best price I've seen on the Steam Deck.

I won't buy it because my wife would absolutely kill me.
At this price I think it's a great deal.

    oled version is out and seems way better. surprisingly there is no official for anything in nz.

      Yeah Gabe Newell doesn't think New Zealand exists or anything, not like he lives here.. oh wait…

    no oled no deal

  • I imported the 64gb from Value January this year for approx $845 nzd. So if you don't want to the Oled version, good price buying withNZ warranty.

  • Ive got a 512GB OLED arriving shortly… not sure if I should sell it and get a Quest 3 though.

    • How much did you end up paying? and how???

        You have to create a US steam account while on a VPN to a US server. Then you pay with Wise (maybe your normal bank works but Wise definitely does) with your Wise card address set to a US address - best to set it to the address that your forward shipper gives you. So yeah, you need to pay for forward shipping, nzpost offers it through youshop. Adds about $200NZD to price to pay for GST and get it sent here. I guess I paid about $1090 nzd total.

        • I need this!

        • From what I've heard it's better to use a forwarder like https://www.myus.com. YouShop is stupidly more expensive in comparison

          • @Corex: The shipping portion of the youshop invoice was $40, the rest was paying GST on the imported item.

    Been cheaper at heathcotes. These will struggle to sell with new model out. 2nd hand market is tanking a bit.

  • Not worth it now the new OLED model is out with bigger battery, if you want a cheap steam deck the 2nd hand market is coming down in price too

  • if you really want a Steam Deck and don't care for an OLED + extra battery life, this is probably a great deal which also has NZ warranty. RMA will be a hassle if you use a VPN since you have to ship/receive it from where you ordered it from.

    I'd personally hold off on the OLED for now, if the LCD release taught us anything, early adopters got punished hard. I'd wait for the refresh especially since some OLED users reported screen issues already

  • which one is better steamdeck or rog ally? everything points to the ally due to hardware but i want one for emulators.

    • +1

      Raw power -> Ally
      OS -> Steam deck.

      See, ROG Ally is very powerful, and it will also run GamePass games, because it's pretty much a Windows 11 PC. And that's also its fallback. Because SteamOS is designed for games, it all works pretty much like a console without any fuss.
      ROG Ally on the other hand may have you fussing around game settings and other windows stuff.

      It's a very hard decision actually.
      By the way, take a look on the Legion GO as well, if you are considering the ROG Ally.

      • Yea i have the same conclusion, will get a ally when they drop in price, early adopters always have bugs.
