AEG 18V 4.0Ah 3 Piece Fusion Brushless Force Kit (+ Bonus 6.0Ah Battery via Redemption) $499 @ Bunnings

40

Another excellent tool deal.

You get the 3 piece kit (with 2x 4.0ah batteries and charger) on clearance for $499 (was $749) and a bonus 6.0ah battery worth $233 via redemption.

I find these deals are a great way to get batteries, or a single tool you want then sell any tools you don't need.
When all the stars align you can even end up making a bit of money AND keep whatever bit(s) you wanted

Where does AEG fit into the general quality range?

Anyone able to list some of the more common brands you'd find in Mitre10 / Bunnings etc (including AEG) in order of quality / durability?

    • +2

Yes there is a bit of smoke and mirrors with power tools. Often they are owned by the same parent company. AEG, Ryobi, Milwaukee are all owned by one of them. Techtronic.

Generally the quality is regarded as Milwaukee (trade) -> AEG (Trade and more serious DIY) -> Ryobi (DIY)

      • Cool - thanks KiwiCal!

Yeah, they sit between Ryobi and Milwaukee, but there are also 3 levels of quality/power within the AEG range,
The standard non-brushless is poor/on par with Ryobi. Generally not worth the money, unless you get a good price on a kit.
The standard Brushless stuff is fine, generally good enough for heavy duty DIY.
The Fusion series are the best quality/power.

This kit is a mixed bag, with the drill drivers being brushless Brushless and a Fusion saw, but the saw is only 165mm which which won't cut through much more than a 2x4 on the thin edge.

        • Thanks Monkies (and KiwiCal).

The saw is not something I would go looking for as such, but I would likely keep it, and not try to on-sell.

I have various old pieces of kit (two older wired drills, one of which is an AEG hammer drill). I also have an 18V Ozito battery drill, but the charger has died.

That means that right now, I have no (working) battery kit at all, so I figured it was a good opportunity to start afresh, pick one brand / system, and stick with it.

I do some DIY, but I am not a pro or anything, and mostly it is basic projects around the house.

This (or a similar deal) would also solve the perennial problem of how to answer when everyone starts asking, 'What do you want for Christmas?' Whoever wants can chip in together meaning, hopefully, I get less crap I don't want!

So do you think this is a good deal overall?

          • @Alan6984: I have a spare new ozito charger from black friday is you want

            • @debo: Hi Debo,

I have a spare new ozito charger from black friday is you want

Very generous of you, but looks like you are in Christchurch, and I am in Auckland, so a bit far to make it worthwhile.

              Thank you anyway!

              Alan.

        • Thanks. So it will be difficult to on-sell the saw?

Thinking if I can on-sell the saw & 6mah battery, I can get 2 drill with 2 batteries at a decent price. I had been after ryobi drills for awhile, but haven't got any good deals in the past year or so. Especially brushless ones. I have an old dewalt drill with a 1.5mah battery, so not really tied to any ecosystem.

@ace310: You might get about $250-$300 on trademe for the saw and battery. Depends on demand though.

        • There are levels in the Ryobi gear too. I got their brushless ones and they’ve been bloody excellent. Annoying they are restricted to bunnings but the price is mostly pretty decent when on sale.

  • How is the demand for AEG tools? I am after drills, can saw be sold easily?

    • +1

Yes saw will sell easily, and the batteries and charger if you don't need those.

Drills are actually the hardest to sell, as these kits always seem to come with a drill or 2.

I'm happy with mine. Drill, Impact Driver, chainsaw & Lawn mower with 2x5.0ah batteries for DIY home projects. The higher amp hour batteries are a must so the bonus 6ah redemption battery really is a good bonus. I also have a Ryobi Drill & Impact Drive and really can't tell the difference b/w the 2 brands.

    • I'm an AEG man.
Many sqm with the mower? I have about 6-700sqm of super-thick grass so was a bit nervous buying that. But I have about 10 batteries from promos…

      Where is the mower deal?
