i think its because whittakers dont use child labour and cadbury reduced the size of the bar to keep cost down.
they also left dunedin and now made in Australia.

      1. Cadbury is pretty crap
      2. Cadbury shrunk their blocks from 250g to 180g.
So it's actually about $4.42 for the same amount at P&S. That's only 57c cheaper, not what I'd call a ripoff for NZ made chocolate vs imported crap.

Don't want to get into the quality etc argument but it's fairly common for Cadbury to be sold at $2.50 as Rabid said which would be about $3.48 for 250g. In fact it's currently that at New World and my local PaknSave is $2.89 which is about $4.02 for 250g. Whereas Whittaker's lowest it ever goes seems to be $4.49

Yes although New World had it for $4.29 last week for their 3 day sale but I’m guessing $4.49 is the new low sale price at supermarkets considering the price of chocolate is just going up and up.

This is a fair price for New Zealand Made Quality chocolate.

The reason why Cadbury is cheaper is because it is owned my a multinational mega corporation that has bigger buying power and questionable practices.

Complaining why a small New Zealand company is not cheaper than an inferior product from a multinational is nonsensical.

Have u seen how much smaller the Cadbury bars are? They're basically half the size now.

      • +1

Cadbury have been doing this for years.
The original Dairy Milk used to be 250g and then…

2009: Dropped the bar size from 250g to 200g
2013: Increased the size to from 200g to 220g (only after years of backlash from the public and still never back to the original 250g)
        2015: Downsized to 200g
        2019: Downsized to 180g
        2024??

    • lol ”Cadbury Old Gold is better than Whittaker Dark”. You should check out Reduced to Clear stores. The dumping ground of Old Gold because they are simply atrocious. Loads of them that they can't get rid of.

Because Cadbury is trash and constantly have been making their blocks smaller.
Quality has gone majorly downhill since it moved production to Australia.

If anything, Whittaker's is a real deal, never a rip-off, you are getting better quality chocolate than a lot of the world.

Also, it is locally owned and operated and keeping New Zealanders in jobs.

And lets not forget all wages have gone up including minimum wage that has increased $7 in the last 6 years and during that time shipping costs have gone through the roof and cocoa farmers are getting paid more.

  • An even $5 is pretty good for some quality NZ chocolate.

  • These are often under $5 at pak n save.

    • $5.85-6.55 in Dunedin right now with pak'n'save, new world, fresh choice and countdown in that range. NI pricing is often way better for alot of products.

  • NW had it for $4.29 last week
