Good Weekends Plan: Free Power 9am-5pm Every Saturday and Sunday @ Contact

30

A new plan available from Contact energy.

No fixed term.

Good Weekends Plan: Free electricity from 9am-5pm every Saturday and Sunday.

this is an alternative to the good night plan, but the variable rate for both high user and low user is about 23% to 27% lower (varies by location). so this may suit people who use a lot of power on the weekends during the day.

For example: in Auckland (before GST): (check your quoted rates before joining/ or changing plans as this may vary by location).

Free Saturday & Sunday, 9AM - 5PMFree
Charged Outside of the Free Hours16c/kWh
Daily Charge$2.175/day

Free Saturday & Sunday, 9AM - 5PM (Low User) Free
Charged Outside of the Free Hours (Low User)22.7c/kWh
Daily Charge (Low User)90c/day

These rates compared to Good night plan:

Charged: Midnight - 9pm (Low User)29.3c/kWh
Free: 9pm - Midnight(Low User)Free
Daily Charge (Low User) 90c/day

Charged: Midnight - 9pm21.5c/kWh
Free: 9pm - Midnight Free
Daily Charge $2.271/day

(I have checked Wellington the patterns of difference in rates are similar).

Referral discount of $100 off to join is available with no fixed term.

Referral conditions:

• Online only offer, not available with promo codes or other limited time offers. See here for full terms that apply.
• The discounts are applied within 45 days of your electricity account being activated here at Contact. After 30 days from when your account has been activated, we’ll check to see that you’re both still with Contact. After that check has been made, the discount takes up to 15 days to process.
• Your friend must sign up to at least electricity. The discount will also be applied to new customers who sign up to more than one service (e.g. electricity, gas and broadband) as long as electricity is one of those services.
• The unique referral link or promo code must be used in order to qualify for this promotion and the associated discounts.

  • Daily fixed charge is too high, I am with mercury and i pay 60cent vs this plan with contact is $1.90 per day for my address

    • if change that to low user, and fixed rate won't be at $1.9. more like 90 cents? For new customers, Mercury is charging the same fixed rate at 90 cents + GST. but had a higher variable price, without the free power or the sign up bonus without a contract.

      • I think they call it Plus low :) Are these good rates ?

        • I can't comment on your gas rates, as I do not have gas, but the electricity rates that you quoted part appears be about $219 more expensive than the Contact weekend plan over a year. if you are low user and say you use 6000 units over a year, and despite lower fixed rate and 8% discount and $200 over a year. vs Contact weekend plan, as a basic assumption that you get 16 hours of free power over a week of 9.5% of the week free (but assuming you use power uniformly over a week. In practice generally a household use a lot less power at night, so discount is greater. and you are not locked into a contract after the signal bonus from Contact after 45 days or so. (PS you are still worse off if you use 3000 units per year on your quoted rate).

          • @gooddeals: I worked out I used 3000 units this year. The power shouts at Genesis only works best per hour if you do everything at once but who does that :)

wish They could just show how much you would be saving on their websites with competitor rates

          • @gooddeals: I did a quick check at powerswitch , current Genesis energy was recommended based at my address

            • +1

@Joe: Power switch is a good start.. but you can also check https://switchme.co.nz/ and https://www.powercompare.co.nz/

as well but all of comparison sites do not include all the possible power companies unfortunately, only the ones that sponsored them in some way perhaps.

e.g. this Contact detail was not part of any of the comparison site. so to find really good deals one has to do some homework, quite easy to set this up a on Excel sheet.

If $60 daily charge would be a big portion of your bill, you probably should look at the low user.

    • +1

Its gonna go up until low user is no longer a thing.

  • The hours you get free are 14% of your week, granted these are hours you will probably use more power. So depending on your usage, it could stack up.
For me looking at the amount of power used each hour and the off-peak/vs on-peak hours rates, I'm marginally better off with the Flick Off Peak power plan offers a larger number of hours at the off-peak rate which is ~20% cheaper than the Contact rate. We have already moved scheduled loads off peak though.

    • Thanks the key though is the sign up bonus of $100 without a contract which is now harder to come by.. Effectively mean the first 45 days you get $100 off then you are free to join any other bonus offer elsewhere.

Depending on usage the contact weekend plan is a better option for many people because the variable rate for other non free hours are so much cheaper (20%) than the good night plan with free 9 pm to midnight, I. E. For Good night plan one has to use so much power during free hours to save more than the weekend plan

  • Tried twice to get a referral code. No one wants to respond.

    • as per the cheapies website condition, people could not directly offer you a referral code, but you may PM people who you think may have a referral code, at your request? or keep trying via the referral links.. do note that the referral system is now officially off, but the older referral codes may appear to still work.
