  • Great price, I hope you don't get what you pay for

Feels too good to be true at this price. We are toying with a bedroom heat pump but lots knows how much this would cost to install once it arrives.

    • And if you could get it installed. Not sure on gas types that are approved now etc.

Is this a DIY thing though perhaps? They come precharged with gas for runs under 5m. Do you need a vacuum tool or similar to install?

      • For us we'd need a sparky so definitely not a diy job we could handle. I was toying with the concept of looking at multi splits or ducted as an option, with a second kid incoming losing the portable heaters would be a nice safety feature for the home.

  • Rental only?

Thanks OP, took the plunge and bought a unit for the master bedroom. I have a very affordable sparky (that I've used for my house Reno) in the Auckland region of anyone needs theirs installed

    • yes can you let me know how much it cost for your installs please :)

Will let you know as soon as I have the quote

Can I ask what your quote was too? :)

@Clay: $600+GST and that includes all Labor and materials + a wall bracket tommount the outside unit

            • @dherby: Ooh that's pretty good, thanks! Any chance you can send details? :D

Please can you let me know too :)

  • Wisest thing to do would be get a quote first from a tradesman who is certified to do the install and do / have any required electrical certification. As a certified install alone may cost quite abit, also getting a full "buy the heat pump with install" quote from say a cheaper chinese brand supplier like Haier. So you get the two quotes for comparison. Be interested to see if a Cheapie/s in Auckland do this and what turns out the better - cheaper option. My corporate landlord put in a heat pump under healthy homes program last year. The contractors who they selected to do it used small Haier heat pump units , and where some of the sneaky-est, snarky-est mob ive ever encountered…. !

  • If I recall there was someone on geekzone who had them for a few months and didn’t have any issues.

Fwiw it cost me $500+GST for a back to back heat pump installation in Wellington, from a refrigeration tech (didn't do electrical hookup)

    • hi, is 500+GST for 1 unit or 2?

      • It should be one, HVAC people can do it cheapest if they can draw power from a near by socket , if you need electrical work done it's b ttee to do it via electrician

I think Kogan's air conditioner are OEM by AUX. AUX is a large manufacturer in China started in 1994.

The price is very fair consider it is just slightly more than AUX's models in China.

Given the experiences we've had with every other cheapo Kogan branded item, I'd personally avoid these (window vac, vacuum and steam mop all konked out within a year or two).

But will be very interested to see how other cheapies go with their purchases.

    • I think it's just an issue with their QC. I've had a window vac for 5 years that works flawlessly and gets used relentlessly through winter.
Had a shiatsu style back massager for 6 years still works but the fabric has worn through due to so much use.
Have a multifunction stand mixer never kisses a beat.
      Multiple wifi smart bulbs

I've had friends with bad luck in kogan brand but everything I've bought has turned out to be best bang for Buck ever spent.

      • Agree my cheap smart kettle from Kogan is working fine after 5 1/2 years..

Fyi my inputs i put in 4 heat pumps recently,
3 x 2.5 kw midea 5 year warranty 5+ acop for 650 NZD i put in dedicated power with circuit breaker for 1 2.5 gauge , another 4 mm gauge single circuit for 2 x 2.5 kw . On a wall bracket and looks great neat installation for 700 NZD cash each which is not a back to back installation.
6 kw midea similar set up with 4 mm gauge wire dedicated circuit with wall mounting used old water pump similar price
I live in Christchurch if you like to know electrician info let me know

    • Can I please get the details of the electrician you mentioned.

  • Does any one know if this would be covered under the Consumer Guarantees Act if anything were to go wrong with the unit and Kogan were not to cover it?
It seems like Kogan doesn't have a NZ registered company and operates the website using its Australian company.

    • A heatpump dryer i bought off Kogan was covered by consumer guarantees act.
