  • Has someone found how to turn off the LED display on this in Normal mode? It is so distracting in the night. Also the sleep mode turns off the display but it automatically goes down to the slowest fan speed after some time.

There look to be many of these that are variations on the same theme. This one has the gold air branding and WiFi, but the controls and screen etc all looks the same as the budget alternatives.

    • lo tech solution would be a piece of paper taped on one end so it acts like a flap cover. not the best solution but works.

    • I jave put it in sleep mode through the app and the LEDs are OFF

      • yeah, the sleep mode however puts the fans in the lowest speed setting in 30 mins.

Still not sure I understand the need for a smart fan. Heating and air con I totally understand you want to pre warm or cool a room but a fan that just moves air around seems kind of pointless unless you are sat next to it, at which point it really doesn't need to be smart.

    • Personally I keep mine at the foot of the bed during Summer and it's nice that I'm able to control it without getting out of bed.

Though I suppose one with a remote would serve the same purpose.

    • Sometimes across the room is a very long way 😂

    • Personally I set my aircon to go off around 4.30 -5am as it is cool enough for me and house is cooler as well so don't need it. Same goes with fan if windows are open a bit it is colder in morning and so would like the fan to turn off around that time. Can't be bothered to even look for remote in sleep

    • How weak are the fans you've been using? I don't keep my fan within arm's reach, so the smart functions are handy. Being able to adjust the speed or rotate the fan while I'm in bed is great. Voice control via assistant is also useful.

It's something that can also be bundled in to be turned on with lights, off when A/C goes on, on when the temp reaches a certain point etc

i have mine near a window and use a (TP-Link Tapo P110 Mini Smart Wi-Fi Plug) and use a normal fan, have it run for an hour after im asleep etc.
i use that plug for other electronic devices to cut the standby devices off etc.

  • I’ve got a half decent fan need an upgrade, thoughts on this vs waiting it out till the days get abit cooler and there’s a clearance sale? (No rush for an upgrade)

    • What's the reason you're looking to upgrade your fan?

I own a model similar to thos and it's fine for what it is.

      • It’s one of the cheaper pedestal fans. Have had it for a couple years - parts are broken/bent such as the base.

Have also moved to a bigger room so it’s not the strongest.

    • Personally I think the tower form for fans is junk, so I'd look elsewhere.

I'm a big fan of the Xiaomi pedestal fan I bought a few years back. Small, light and quiet - it does the job well

      • I’ll look into this, cheers.

  • propeller fans are better than blowers

  • I got few Kmart large tower fans few years back. There are still working great with decent amount air flow and sold for $39 which was absolute value. Kmart stopped those models and upgraded smaller versions looks better but crap amount of air.

I tested few tower fans in Mitre10 and none of them had decent air flow similar the cheaper Kmart one. Or pay over $300.

Anyone know these Goldair fans are better?

    Thanks.
