Cheap Reccomendations for Phone Data + Calls/Text While in Oz for a Week

Well the title says it all. Going to Oz for a week later in the year. Currently on Skinny $17 plan. Need a bit of data and call/text capability while over there. Both for the Mrs and I . Both got dual sim phones…..

Who's got some experience with this. I know Skinny do an Oz pack but I think it's $40 for a miserable 1GB of data and calls for one week… Eeeekk.

  • I got the Kogan e-Sim $5 plan last time I was there. But that's because I didn't need to text/call anyone off my own number while I was in Australia.

    https://www.koganmobile.com.au/
    10GB, unlimited calls/text AU/NZ.

Just remember to untick the FIRST box when joining and cancel before leaving the country.

    • I used that plan too when I was there last.
      Really cheap.
Just remember the calls/txt are national only with this (ie within Oz) but you can use wifi calling and messaging using the data via a messaging app.

      • Woops my bad. For some reason I thought it was NZ calling too.

        • The NZ Kogan plans allow NZ and Oz calling/txt but their plans don’t.
However, they offset that with much more data and eSIM.

I also see that you need to contact Kogan to cancel the auto-renew rather than just turn it off in app. Therefore, I would recommend using a disposable card like Wise (and then delete it) so you don’t have to worry.

    • Heya, I can’t find the e-sim $5 plan on the Aus site, it’s $15 for $10gb. Have they taken it off or is it hiding from me? I see it on Kogan.com but comes with a sim (can’t see how to change it) and says within NZ. Thanks 😊

Amay esim is super chreap, just cancel auto renew.

  • Once there, you could check out the starter packs at Officeworks stores once there which I've done the last few trips. Actually just got back from 3weeks there and had grabbed a Lebara pack which was on clearance for $10 and gave me 35gb whilst there (the full 70gb advertised only applicable from the 2nd month). Admittedly this one was on the Voda network which dropped me a few times when outside of metro Melbourne but otherwise great. Looks to be back up to normal price now though https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lebara-pre…

Just go and see what's in special at either Coles and Woolworths. (Look online once you get there/you're in the correct special week).

There are a bunch of different data options from a bunch of different companies.

I got a Vodafone 20gig (+20 as a new sign up) for around $30 (maybe less) a few months back

  • Thanks Cheapies !
