Air NZ Flights - Experience with Refunds?

Hi all,

Recently purchased A return flight to Melb in march. Just checked and the flights are now on sale for $300 cheaper than originally purchased!

Has anyone had any luck with refunds of the difference in price?

FYI its a "Tasman Smart Saver Fare" therefore cannot refund without a good excuse i assume?

  • I will call them and try to say I accidentally booked wrong date. Most likely they will give you credit back of the ticket price and rebook new flight with the credit. You definitely not get the refund however, at least you will get difference in the form of air New Zealand credit which can be used in the future.

    Try your luck :)

    • Thank you mate, will try now!!

Update: They wouldnt allow me to change anything, without paying $135 in admin fees and etc

However, found a little loop hole. Paid an extra $600, upgraded my flights to flexi fares, and then refunded the flights into a airnz credit.

I fly often, so a credit suits me! Now have $1500 in credit.

Shocking what they (and similar travel companies) think they can change for "admin". It's completely unjustified.

      • definately - its admin fees and you do all the work was out of pocket about $1200 when I had to change flights for the fam

  • If the fare was booked in error within 24 hours it falls within a specific policy that allows for a refund.

  • Good that that loophole works with Air NZ - it previously worked with Jetstar but I found out the hard way that they've stopped it now
