The title should say for for first and business class.

    • Why? Per the details, it's available to everyone who joins KrisFlyer which is free. I assume you do have to provide some tails and agre to their data collection etc, although wonder how much more they collect and keep on you compared to how much Singapore Airlines normally do. It does seem they have some weirdness e.g. per OzB if your membership lapses they may require a new account with a different email and phone number but still it doesn't seem that bad.

I shared this with someone who I knew was flying Singapore Airlines, they confirmed they'd been doing this on Economy or maybe it's Premium Economy, without issue.

(The lack of mention of excluding 737-800 NG in the title before Wakrak fixed it was an issue.)

      • I took a flight from Singapore to Christchurch on the 23rd and was prompted to enter my KrisFlyer number and seat information. However, after entering the details, I was informed that the seat isn't eligible for Wifi. This might be a new implementation, but no dates were given.

        • Per OzBargain it's been available since from 1 July 2023. Dunno why it didn't work for you. The person I spoke to flew Auckland to Singapore then from Singapore to Europe in November, and it worked. Also flew recently about 2 weeks ago from Europe to Singapore also worked. All times on economy standard.

Did you attach your KrisFlyer membership to your booking before you were in air? They make a big deal of doing this, so even if they ask you for your membership on flight, I wouldn't count on it working if you haven't attached it to your booking beforehand. Weird implementation but perhaps there are reasons they do that.

Edit: Looking online e.g. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/singapore-airlines-krisflyer… I think you definitely need to attach your Krisflyer account to your booking beforehand.

Per that and OzBargain, you're allowed to attach another frequent flyer programme for the miles and KrisFlyer for the services if you prefer. Perhaps the onflight membership thing might be part of checking if you are eligible, like they check if the membership is attached to a booking for that flight or something?

If the problem was you didn't attached your KrisFlyer to your booking before the flight, the message you received should be clearer although I guess it's not untrue. Your seat wasn't eligible because you were economy and you did not attach your membership. People on business or better don't need KrisFlyer membership. However it should have said something like 'If you attach KrisFlyer membership to your booking before takeoff, you would be eligible for free WiFi' or something, to advertise as much as anything.

          • @Nil Einne: Yes, my ticket had a KrisFlyer membership attached to it. However, I'm uncertain if booking the ticket through the Air NZ website for the Singapore Airlines flight influenced this in any way.

  • Didn't have any success trying to connect to this - not sure why, but in hindsight looks like they use Boeing 737-800 NGs on that route

  • Didn't work for me at first (flying from Singapore to Auckland two weeks ago, krisflyer member, business class). The flight attedant helped me to get it sorted.
