Transport to work after an ACC-approved accident claim

Hi everyone, I'm asking for a friend (seriously)

They had an injury from an accident whose claim has been approved by ACC. Will need to have an operation which will be covered by ACC. However they are required not to drive for 2 months after the operation. They are allowed to work after the accident (desk based). However their work can't be done from home (and they don't want to wfh anyway, so don't want to ask for an exception to wfh). Will ACC cover the Uber costs between home and the office daily for those 2 months? Do they need to apply to ACC in advance (of the operation)? They are self-employed, and want to work (to meet important deadlines). They didn't bother checking if they were eligible for loss of income compensation because they didn't want to go down that route anyway.

Public transport exists but very infrequent (one service every hourl), door-to-door probably 70 mins for a 25-minute car trip.

Does anyone know, or have had similar experience?

Thanks

    Talk to the case manager

ACC have a contract with various taxi firms for this. Years ago when I was in a similar situation with returning to work (ankle surgery) a taxi picked me up.

Have no idea how they manage it now with working from home and more flexibility in working arrangements.

ACC want people back at work ASAP, and them paying for a taxi is going to be a lot cheaper than covering 80% of earnings.

As someone else said acc pays for a taxi, although probably because acc don't pay the taxis as much as their normal rate sometimes they can be quite late

ACC pays for taxis, but they are unreliable especially during peak traffic hours.

When i broke my arm, i was unable to drive safely.
I worked in office and ACC was happy to pay for taxi (a lot cheaper than paying 80% of my wage)

They approve it and it didnt cost a thing

Had shoulder reconstruction last year due to an injury at lacrosse.

ACC will pay for taxi's to/from appointments, and to work if required. They'll also pay to get you down to the supermarket to do grocery shopping, etc. You need to pre-arrange this.

I have been told by ACC on one occasion (when I mentioned about how unreliable taxi's are) that I can claim back on uber rides, however it's a while process to send in the documentation/etc so I never explored that option.
