Woolworths - Can No Longer Price Error Meat if on Special

Just saw some meat mispriced. Was beef scotch steak that was on special, but price on pack was the older non-special price.
Historically, this would scan at the old price and you could price error it to get for free.
Now it scans as the special price irrespective of price on pack.

Was good while it lasted

  • How did I not know about this?

    • It was nice. Waiting on mrs to do her thing, i would scour the meat section for price errors.
Last freebies was 2 salmon fillets and a pork belly.
      Sadly, no more 😞

    • I'm in Auckland, and I've just realised they always placed the clearance sticker over the old barcode, thus preventing the older price from being scanned. I remember several years ago they did not do this.

  • It's really odd to think that that wasn't already the case. Does this mean we could have made barcodes for rw mince kg $3.00 or something in the past if it wasnt checked against some list somewhere

    • I wouldnt go that far.

    • It's actually a well known trick but lots people have been arrested for that in the past, given the amount of hi res cameras around store.

  • speaking of which, has there just been another price hike for grocery items in the last few weeks, prices seem even more higher now than few months ago. I know come April they will hike it again.

    • Went to countdown this week, they seemed very high except 1 or 2 items.
Went to paknsave straight afterwards, didnt notice anything significant had changed. I did notice in general paknsave was cheaper except those items at countdown which were to get people in the door eg. Cheaper coke and fruju.
Aunt dai dumplings were "on special" for $10+

  • Has anyone claimed the "fresh or free" at WW? My local often has those plastic tubs of prepackaged fruits with one of them visibly rotting.

    • I havent, good if its like a single grape or something going bad. Or a bad strawberry.

    • Yes had bought a odd bunch apple 2kg bag, most of them are bruises took it back they just refund the money no ask.

  • Is this mean it scan the item to grab the price info from the system instead of the barcode?

And they will only give you free/refund only when the transaction has been completed right? If a checkout operator error has occurred during the transaction, only the difference between the correct price and incorrect price will be refunded.

    • Yes, the barcode appears to now pair with the system when it scans.

They will give you the item and a refund after you have paid for it if there is an error with price (u were overcharged)
      https://www.countdown.co.nz/info/policies/refund-policy see price issues.

Historically it was all on the barcode, so meat going on special, if they havent put the right price/barcode on the item, it would scan higher amount, meaning a price issue, and you can get item for free.
