Travel Insurance via Credit Card w/Pre-Existing Conditions

Hi All,

I'm looking for the best way to get travel insurance for my parents who have a big trip coming up (no bookings made yet). They unfortunately have pre-existing conditions which would definitely need to be included in their travel insurance.

Apart from BNZ, who allow for pre-existing conditions to added with a premium, are there any other credit cards that would allow this?

BNZ doesn't allow one to check their premium rates if they don't already have an Advantage Platinum Credit Card. Does it end up being the same as getting travel insurance separately(e.g via Southern Cross or NIB)?

  • I have a pre existing condition and I have not found any travel insurance that will cover the condition these days since they all use the same standard tick box questionnaire rather than have you talk to their health professional.
That is with a condition that has caused no issues in 35 years and condition has less risk the older I get and I would be in the top 5% healthly living and fitness. Condition just shows up as high risk using their tick forms when it should be
    low risk.
    So best of luck.

    • Since actually low risk. I do not care if excluded. Some will give no cover at all.

2 seniors here, both with pre existing conditions.I have used Westpac cc and other insurance companies. The questions are the same as Westpac uses Allianz. So their standard policy. The savings are about $100 each per trip. our pre existing surcharge was similar to the AA one. ( I used Covermore and AA when using up covid credits or was away for 6 weeks, so didn't meet the conditions of CC ins) Successful hearing aid claim via the AA policy) Before they book, do a dummy on a standard travel insurance questionaire, eg AA, to check that their trip and conditions can be covered. Some conditions exclude you from cover in some counties. Also cc ins has max 35 days.

  • Cover more will cover pre-existing conditions for a charge.

Yes, all insurance companies will cover it for a premium. I was wondering if any credit cards offered it part of their benefits.

As an insurance broker, honestly, the only travel insurer I fully trust at claim time is Covermore.

  • Dod this through asb and it cost ke a big wedge so dodnt really save much than going direvt to a insurer to be hinest but that was a long trip
