Need a New Heat Pump Dryer (Consumer Report Please)

Hi all,
Our Panasonic heat pump dryer just died (a reasonable run over 6-7 years). Would appreciate any consumer reports or recommendations from anyone. Cheers!

Replaced our dryer last year - it was about 25 years old.

    • What did you buy?

  • I don't have a recommendation but I have a fisher and paykel and would never buy again. It's barrel wheel stabilisers develop flat spots so it rumbles and shakes ever time it starts and F&P can't fix it. They replaced the wheels but it still happens. That's something a consumer report probably would show up because it's a slightly longer time issue than what a test environment would develop. My prior Bosch lasted for years without any issues.

    • Thanks for that. Was the F&P a heat pump dryer? Or regular?. Interesting because F&P seem to get good ratings, as do Samsungs. That wheels issue would piss me off though lol!

      • It's not a hpd, it's a condenser, but I'd assume every dryer would have some sort of stabiliser wheels on the barrel(they look a bit like inline skate wheels. It also sometimes struggles to dry properly too (sensor issue)

Had a haier crap itself 6 months after the warranty ran out and wouldn’t buy again.

We just replaced it with a Hisense and so far it’s amazing. $1,199 from Harvey’s or smiths city. I did a heap of research comparing it with the others and it came out on top from reviews. Also comes with a 3 year manufacturer warranty when all the others were 2. Picked it up with Harvey’s warrant to make it 5 years for an extra $139 (usually $169 so ask for a deal)

It has wifi and tells us when the dryer is done and so far it’s mint!

  • Has anyone tried the midea heat pump dryers? It's always a strange brand that I'm aware they wholesale manufactur a hell of a lot of products when it comes to things like microwaves but tend to be viewed as a cheaper brand with their sticker on the product.

We're contemplating switching as our vented dryer is leaving scorch marks and the ventilation in our garage isn't as good as the house we originally bought the dryer in. The midea model is currently down to $850 though which seems a good price of it's any good.

    • what did you end up buying? I am also looking at Midea Heatpump dryer…

      • We had a Hisense one delivered yesterday. Ended up cashing out Airpoints we'd been racking up to cover most of the cost from Smith's.

So far it's good but that's after a single load. Takes a long time to dry but that's to be expected with how they work.
