We have a Samsung smart TV at home and the kids have misplaced the remote control. It's been months now and still no show. We are iPhone users. Have tried a couple of apps but all require in-app purchases. Does anyone know a free good app to use?

Could buy a Google TV (HD) doogle. Saw them for $49 the only day. The remote from that can be used for Samsung tvs and then you have all the other Google TV stuff available
Aliexpress has similar remotes for cheap. They either have ir or rf(same as original but higher price). Or you can have a good universal remote. I have an air remote from aliexpress which I bought few years back and works great on Samsung qled and my old non-smart Samsung as well. Kept it as a spare exactly for the same reason.
not sure if it is useful, but you can use a usb dongle keyboard directly into the tv. It works okay
$13 on Trade Me for ones that look identical to the one that came with our 2019 model. The only thing they look to be missing is the microphone for the voice assistant.

You're not going to be able to control the TV directly using your iPhone, as they don't have an IR blaster. Either use SmartThings (if TV works with it), or buy a new remote.
