Using them on grocery purchases is effectively the same as swapping them for cash at 100c on the dollar - no need to look any further?

    • You're not wrong, I was thinking of doing something a bit more fun with it though like purchasing something and then selling it on/trading it.

Okay, so convert to cash via groceries, and then use the cash to buy / trade something?

If you can make a worthwhile profit trading something, then do it regardless of the vouchers.

I agree with Alan. If you want to use the money for something just spend the card at the supermarket and make sure you put the $200 cash equivalent aside to do that with. It makes no financial difference how you spend the cards and this way you won't end up with some random stupid amount left on the card. I find prezzy cards are just easier to spunk the entire lot in one hit to avoid tracking how much is left. Sure it's nice to buy a treat and not feel like you spent your own money but financial it makes no actual difference this way.

We just blew all our air points on a Smith's city purchase for the same reason, it was money we were saving for a holiday but ultimately now we aren't stuck flying air new Zealand when we decide to go away and the points went on what we were going to spend anyway.

        • And you don't have to pay the 10% fee or whatever if you don't have enough points for the flight and need to use cash to top up.

    • Use gift card to buy only groceries that are on weekly special. That should extend the value even further. That's what I'm doing now. Groceries are more expensive these days, so that $200 will deplete sooner than you think.

It's not "cashing them out", but I had to use some up on the 31st March when I realised they were expiring that night.
Didn't know what to get that would use the full value, so ended up buying Farmers giftcards online, which expire 4 years from now. It's a good extension on something I almost lost, and I'm sure I'll use it on something in that time.

Not bad, although we have stopped buying from Farmers much these last few years - charging for click and collect was stepping over a line for us! Good general idea though - everyone should be able to find gift vouchers from some other party they will spend with.

In the same situation, I would likely jump onto a supermarket site and buy up stuff on special that we will always use, and won't go off, such as washing power, cereal, pasta, rice, soap, deodorant, maybe stuff that would go in the freezer - whatever was a good price at the time, and there's always something.

    • Didn't think of buying other giftcards to extend it's time, good idea.

Tip for those virtual prezzy cards… Can load to google wallet and use as paywave/google pay like you would any other card.

I presume you can do the same on apple.

    • how to, pls.

Use ApplePay to add it to your Revolut app and top the app up. You can then spend using the Revolut card or transfer to you bank account. Worked for me a while back. Has to be ApplePay though.

    • Wish it worked the same for Wise

    • Works on Google Pay too from what I know

  • Get them as 'tips' at a gentleman's club then 2 mins later ask them to exchange the tips for cash.

    Creative, and effective.

    • Fitting username!

Create a trademe free 1$ res listing that accepts ping, use a friends account with this prezzy card to pay $200 on said listing. 2% fee for cashout seems reasonable.

    • trademe fees?

      • Easily refundable.
