Replacement/New Spectacle Lenses - Seeking Advice

I'm trying to find an affordable (read cheap) way to put prescription lenses into a pair of spectacle frames I already own. Any suggestions on where I should go for these?

Thanks in advance!

  • Are you in Auckland? Costco does it.

I did mine few months ago. From memory: $230 for the lens (i'm -5 in lens power so this include thinning the lens) + $30 frame handling.

    • Hi Spam,

      Costco does it.

Do you know if they will fit new lenses into 'rimless frames', or only full frames?

      Thanks,

      Alan.

      • I'm not sure. Mine is full rim. Better ring them or talk to the optometrist when you're there.

        • Will do - thanks!

Smartbuyglasses offer this. Have to send them away though.

Got my last couple frames and lenses though them, way way cheaper than the same through Specsavers / OPSM

    • Specsavers / OPSM is a rip-off. They quoted me $500 to get mine reglazed while I could spend the same money to get frame + lens.

Or just get a whole new set of glasses for well under $50 delivered** with Zenni Optical? They have some glasses 50% off right now. Just search this site for Zenni for earlier commentary, or here's some from me: https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/143134/redir. I haven't bought glasses from anywhere else in the last 15 years.

** EDIT: ok, there are some caveats: high refractive index prescriptions, lens coatings, UV blocking, fancy frames, etc might mean you have to spend a little over $100, but the same thing at OPSM will cost you $700-900 easy.

  • Zenni Optical show up these local merchants prices. I've read mostly good things about their service.

  • I use Zenni also, I haven't purchased a pair of glasses in NZ for years. They are so much cheaper.

  • I have always use SOS eye services to fix my glasses after using them for work as well. Fast and affordable. Have even repaired ones that had been walked on and bent out of shape.
