Newly launched Grocery Price Comparison Site....feedback appreciated!

Hi we would love feedback in regards to a new launched Grocery price comparison app: Grosave.

The site is: grosave.co.nz

We would love to hear the following feedback!

  1. Whether you would consistently use this app to shop for groceries
  2. How much you are likely to save per week using our app
  3. Any personal annoyances/frustrations
4.If you have been using Grocer, what do you prefer that our app lacks?

Future features we are going to implement:
1. Ability to select stores

Many thanks for your time!
It really helps us develop something that as many people as possible can enjoy :)

  • The first issue I can see is that a lot of products have the wrong image. I'm not sure where you are pulling them from, but it's a bit rough.

The ability to click on a store under an item and then redirected to their website would be great. I'm still going to use Grocer though because it already exists and works well, just not too sure why we need another platform with a similar UI.

    • I'm in the discord groups of both Grocer and Grosave. When you report an issue or leave feedback in the Grocer group, it will most likely be unresponded. I recall that Grocer is just a side project of the app developer so I guess that he doesn't really have much time to listen to all this. But the Grosave guys respond pretty fast, probably because they're new and are trying to catch up.

      • This.

While they are updating, there are some very minor (and obvious) changes they could make to the UI and search that (after waiting three or so updates and "surveys" for them to see it) I have eventually joined the discord (boo! It's a shitty way to provide feedback) and passed it on. But zero response - and I seriously doubt Um the only person to pass it on.

        • +1

Hello is this in regards to Grosave or Grocer? We are doing our best to respond to everyone here at Grosave :)

      • Nice, that's good to hear.

    • Hi yes we recently added freshchoice and that muddled up the images a tad. We are working on fixing this :)

The reason we are working on Grosave is because we seek to provide extra value compared with competitors.

We back up information to the cloud, have options for lowest price and lowest price per unit, and are constantly adding new features daily.
We also respond to users and fix issues and feedback as soon as possible.
In other words, we are more active in seeking to provide the best possible user experience so that price comparison can be as convenient as possible to more and more people.

      Hope that answered your question.

    • Hi kfr23,

Thanks for your feedback! We've recently updated our app and believe we've resolved most of the image issues. If you notice any discrepancies, please let us know and we'll address them promptly.

Our app offers unique features like cloud-saved shopping lists and a one-click best plan finder that Grocer doesn't provide. These tools are designed to simplify your shopping experience, ensuring you always get the best deals and convenience.

We invite you to register and explore these exclusive benefits. Your input is invaluable as we strive to create the best possible shopping tool for everyone!

Thanks for giving us a try!

    Could you please consider:

Ability to save items as favourites and get notifications when prices fall below the set values.
Show the database update date and time as Grocer does.

    • Yes I will relay this to the team!
We will add them to the pipeline ;)

    • +1

      Hi @xsolider,

We've updated the app! You can now view the data update time, which shows the percentage of overall data and details for each supermarket brand. 😉

To enable this feature, go to "Account" -> "Settings" -> switch on "Show data updated time." You'll then see the data update time on the "Search" page. I hope this helps! If you have any other feedback, we'd love to hear it!

  • +5

Not sure if it's practical, but a graph showing price history for items would be an awesome feature that Grocer doesn't have.

    • +1

That is a good idea and definitely doable! May I ask the reasoning behind this? Will the knowledge that prices have increased change buying behaviour?

      • +1

Biggest factor for me would be in being able to identify trends to influce purchasing decisions. For example, a product might regularly be 50% cheaper ("On special") on the last week of each month, so it could allow one to plan to stock up during that week.

        • Right, so this would be helpful for items that are on the shelves year around…rather than more seasonal products such as fruits and maybe even meats.

          • @R2D2: I think price history would be great for seasonal products to. If I can see when a fruit went up in price / unavailable last year I might stock up.

      • It would be to see if stores are just price rotating specials on a regular basis, so people know when to buy stuff. ALso will show the price history to see how much products are going up compared to inflation. There doesn't seem to be any record of prices over time.

    • Yes id like price history thatd be nice. I sometimes used pricegrabber for price history although price grabber is sometimes a bit inaccurate

  • +1

Agree with the above. Also (as is the case for a lot of sites), ability to see biggest price drops in certain categories. Similar to say camelcamelcamel, and perhaps instead of filtering by country like that site, you could filter by store?

    • Noted about the biggest price drops. Thanks, Elvino.

Regarding filtering, I am not sure if I understand you correctly. Grosave is already filtering prices and data based on stores you have set in a search radius. Is that what you mean or something else?

  • +1

Prices should always have two decimal places. The prices displayed omit trailing zeroes.

    • Thank you. This is an easy fix!

    • we have done this :)

  • Thank you, my wish list:

Sorting of search results, eg. by price, by name, by brand, etc
Export a list to csv, or whatever format
Searching within my own list (I use a list to basically keep track of things I frequently buy)
Another vote for price history (used to have such a site, but it's gone now)
Another vote for price alert, this could be from any store (not just the ones I selected, very useful for price matching)

    • I second the ability to create our own list and have those items only show up - that would be the killer feature.

Second best (but likely easier for you) would be to able to export to CSV - then we could match to our own list ourselves very easily. You could always do this first, then implement the personal lists, and remove the export afterwards.

      • Noted :)

      • Hi Alan, we have the shopping list feature. You can click on the heart icon on a product to add it to your shopping list, where you can view only those items. The data is updated daily.

    • Sorting of search results by price, price per unit and relevance has already been done!
By other categories such as name and brand we will consider…what is the reasoning behind name and brand?

I will relay this on to the team :)

      Thank you

  • Wishlist:
    - The ability to specifically sort for "Fresh meat/vegetables/fruit" that isn't frozen/processed products that include that meat/vegetable/fruit
    - A larger area search radius, I live in Lincoln, my main supermarket is in Rolleston (10km) and occasionally I will make my way into christchurch (20km) and like to know when there are better deals

    • Our filter function for meat/vegetable/fruit does prioritize fresh produce but you are saying you would prefer one that omits it entirely?
Larger search radius is a good idea…we will add that to the pipeline.

  • Website doesn't load (as at 08.52 am 21 May)
    No iPhone support?

    • Sorry we are working on it daily sometimes it may be offline for a few minutes when we update stores!
In regards to iPhone support…watch this space ;)

    • Hi Michael,

Thanks for reaching out! Our website should be fully operational on iPhones, but it does require cookies to be enabled. If they're disabled, you might experience loading issues. We're exploring alternative solutions to improve this.

Exciting news—we launched our app for iPhone just this weekend! You can download it here:
      https://apps.apple.com/nz/app/grosave/id6502677163?platform=….

If you encounter any issues, try fully closing the app and restarting it. So far, this solution has worked well except in a very isolated case.

We appreciate your patience and are here to help with any further concerns.

  • I haven't used Grocer, just tried the grosave site. I'd like results to actually be relevant, I searched for 'cheese 1kg' and there isn't even 1 block of cheese in the first page of results, 10x bread items, 1x sausages, 1x macaroni, 1x busters. Is it mainly for seaching specific items to compare prices? I serached for "meadow fresh tasty cheese 1kg" and got milk.

    • Hi, thankyou for the feedback!

The search gets better over time the more you use it. In regards to finding relevant items, please try the filter feature on the top left…you can filter items to categories like dairy and meat which should help!

      • The filter button is now located at the top right, right next to the search bar. 😅

  • With Grocer, every time my Samsung Galaxy phone receives an update, my favourites and store selections disappear.
It would be great to have this info retained, please.

Hi, we have already solved this :) You only need to register and your search settings and shopping list will be stored on the cloud. It will never be lost again and you can access this information from different devices too.

      • Ghost accounts are not permitted, I would kindly ask you to not create multiple accounts. Please sign in to your original account Jayon to continue discussions.

    • Hi Pynylopy, have you tried our shopping list feature yet? All your settings are stored in the cloud once you have registered :)

Let us know if you have more feedback!
      Thanks!

  • Hiya, as others have mentioned, better search results.
"Coke 1.5l" gave me all sorts of items and coke about 3 pages down. I even got "2 Pack 2 In 1 Wash Basin Bounce Drain Filter Pop Up Sink Drain Plug Amazing Deals" before getting coke, and the discription immediately felt like an ali express, temu type desription.

The ability to not show as grid items, display as a table 1 item per row.
Ability to turn off images to condense rows.

    • Also the price of coke is from $2.25, but clicking in the cheapest in my area is $2.99.
It also displays icons for shops not near me, eg. Fresh choice shows as an icon, then paknsave, then +3 even though fresh choice isn't near me or displayed as a price.
If I click on the +3 nothing happens, it feels like it should expand the icons to show?

When searching Coca Cola I do get coke showing first, I never call it Coca Cola though

      • When searching temptations (the cat treats) i get results but only for the warehouse. Supermarkets definately sell them but have nothing to compare them against on your site.

        • When searching bananas, there are so many results that arent condensed into a single item, eg. It splits bananas into bananas, banana banana, banana yellow, bananas kg.
I know its using a descriptor from the site, but just something to mention.

          • @Foodie: When searching bananas, and refreshing the page takes me back to coke 1.5l search.

            • @Foodie: Sorry most of these issues are associated with the problems we are having with freshchoice!
We will pull freshchoice from the stores by this evening and everything should work much better.
Freshchoice will be added back in at a later date.

Our search is constantly improving…please bear with us on this for now :)

Regarding refreshing the page, this has been added to our to do list.

Do you wish to turn off pictures to see more items on the same page?

              • @Grosave Admin: Yes, pictures take up a lot of space on my phone.
I don't need to know what a picture of a coke bottle looks like. I would rather see more details about the items listed.

                • @Foodie:

I don't need to know what a picture of a coke bottle looks like. I would rather see more details about the items listed.

I completely concur with this - best option would be to add a checkbox to turn pictures on or off, and let the user make the decision.

                • +1

                  @Foodie: Hi Foodie,

We have just rolled out the "Compact View" feature. You can find this setting under "Account Page -> Settings". You can also sync it to the cloud, so the setting is applied across all your devices. :)

The new compact view should give you much more space. Hopefully, you won't need to hide pictures anymore.

Let us know if you have any feedback. Cheers!

            • @Foodie: Hi @Foodie, just would like to let you know that we have updated the app and made refresh working. 😉
Let us know if you have more feedback.

              Have a nice weekend!

      • Thank you for your feedback. We have made some changes on how to show the price range. It should have less discrepancies like you mentioned. :)

    • +1

You get temu type descriptions because they include the third party sellers from TWH which looks like a bad idea to me. I've mentioned this to them a while ago but it appears that it remains the same.

      • Yes it is still on our to do list 😅 we are getting to it

      • Hi xsolider,

We have made some changes regarding warehouse data during the weekend. Hopefully, all the marketplace data will start to disappear this week.

        Thanks!

  • +1

I'll give it a try later when I'm free, but here are two features I would like to see:

    1) A page that shows which products are at the lowest price at a specific supermarket.

Example: I select Paknsave Sylvia Park, a page shows a list of what products are at their lowest/second lowest prices at that store, compared to all other stores I've previously favourited, On top is a list of grocery items I've previously saved, and the list is colour coded e.g. pastel blue, and bottom is a list of all other items, sort by most favorited/most popular items in other people's lists. The first item of the bottom list is avocados at $1, with the tag "lowest price in your favourited stores list!". Next down the list is white toast bread at $3, it shows "2nd lowest price in your favourited list! Lowest price is $2.50." I click on the tag to see more.

The second requires a bit more work:
    2) A "limited deals" page that shows deals scraped from the individual supermarkets' Facebook pages.

For example PaknSave Papakura has been posting daily deals on Facebook for the past few weeks now, it would be nice to include it. Note some special sale items are rare/one-off items (e.g. ethnic foods) that doesn't exist in the online shopping site.

    • Noted. The app can partially do what you ask for the 1st requirement, but maybe not that straight forward yet. Once we have improved the UI accordingly. I will come here and reply you again. :)

  • Very nice. As someone in service industry, this helps a lot.

However, can I make a suggestion to include prices from Gilmours?

    • Interesting. Haha, sorry, we didn't know about this before. We will certainly consider it.

Our to-do list is prioritized based on the popularity of a request. ;)

If more users request this, we will bump it up on our to-do list. ;)

  • Tried to include all the store in Christchurch but got this message - "Too many stores are included. Please reduce the radius or choose a different center of the region."
Why is the limit? I often travel between Hornby & Papanui, I can even include both the PnS store in this case.

    • +1

We are releasing changes to the store selectors soon. :) You will be able to pick any stores you want.

We limit the number of stores because using the app to calculate the best shopping plans takes significantly longer when you have too many stores.

      • We limit the number of stores because using the app to calculate the best shopping plans takes significantly longer when you have too many stores.

I would think most people would not mind how long it takes, and would prefer to get the best result?

If it took 15 mins (say) I would be quite happy myself - still far quicker than trying to do it manually.

You could always give some kind of estimated time to work it out, so the user can decide for themself what is too long.

        • Interesting. And good point. :) We will definitely take that to consideration. Just to clear up our current todo list and get to it. ;)

          Thank you!

Feedback: Woolworths and New World typically have the same prices across the chain across the North Island (or South Island). Ditto for The Warehouse with nationwide pricing. Whereas with PaknSave (and to an extent, Fresh Choice) the store managers have much more freedom to set their own prices, and some are more likely to post great specials. So selecting multiple Woolworths/New World/The Warehouse is rather pointless, unless one store stocks a specific item which another doesn't.

So using a relatively small range circle is not as useful compared to the other site, where I can select all the PaknSaves in Auckland, from Silverdale to Papakura, Westgate to Botany. While I don't drive as much distance-wise anymore with RUCs on EVs, if I see a sharp price I'll still go, and try and get multiple things done in one trip.

    • New World stores definitely vary across stores too, but I agree about Woolworths and TWL.

    • Hi Avantime,

We’ve just released a new version of the map selection feature. You can now manually enable and disable stores by tapping the store icon on the map.

Regarding Woolworths prices, our data shows that fresh products can indeed have price differences between stores. It might not be very common, but it does happen. :)

Feel free to manually enable or disable stores as needed.

  • I was trying to search for olive oil in the app, but the search results do not display the product sizes, such as 500ml or 1 litre. Is this a bug?

    • I noticed that too, not sure it's something I'm doing wrong? But without knowing the size, it's useless…haha

    • Same thing happened when I looked for cling wrap refill. Had to rely on the pictures to identify the sizes.

      • Really, what's the point of comparing prices without knowing what the unit price is?

        • Try again now! It's fixed. ;)

And try the compact view too, you can enable it from the "Account" page.

          • @SunBoy: Still can't see the quantity in the description?

Edit: NVM, it looked good after I refreshed the page.

    • Sorry for the confusion! We recently made a change to add a "compact view," and this issue slipped through. It's fixed now.

The "compact view" included the quantity, but we missed it in the normal view. Our apologies for that.

If you go to the "account" page and enable the "compact view," you'll be able to see more products on your mobile screen.

      Thanks for your understanding!

It really needs a larger distance to compare supermarkets, as the max limit is 8km. If you live in a semi location you can't get it to span multiple small towns.

    • Hi nzmax,

This has been done and released today. :)

The radius limit is now 20 km, which might include too many supermarkets in some cases. To address this, we've also added a feature that allows you to manually enable or disable a store. Just tap on the supermarket icon, and you'll see what we mean.

      Cheers

  • I use grocer regularly and just tried this but several of my common must check and buy items don't show up (although they do in grocer). For example, 30 pack of Huggies nappy pants and Barossa Ink Shiraz. Why's this? I'd look to change otherwise. I've selected all stores in my area.

    • Hi @Digits, we are looking into this, right now. :) Will give you some updates asap!

    • Hi can you give us a rough idea of the stores that you have included in the area of you search so we can investigate the issue?
Thanks and great to hear your feedback :)

      • Why are there now four different Grosave accounts on here?

SunBoy, Grosave Support, Grosave Admin, R2D2

        • +1

Hi we are using Grosave Support as the official support account and will retire the other accounts soon.

        • Grosave team members I believe. It should be fine as long as they mark themselves as associated.

      • Try seaching for "buldak" and put your center somewhere in Auckland Central, say Kingsland, there will be many Woolies included, but none were shown in the search results.

      • All of the Palmerston North stores

        • +1

Thank you for your reply @digits.

Search "Barossa Ink Shiraz" returns multiple products. Try this link: https://grosave.co.nz/search?product=Barossa+Ink+Shiraz&sort…

Search "30 pack Huggies" doesn't return what I want. I changed it to "Huggies 30 pack" and get what I want. Try this link: https://grosave.co.nz/search?product=Huggies+30+pack+&sorted…

We are constantly updating our search algorithm. Sorry for the inconvenience it caused. Hopefully, it will be smart enough soon to understand that "Huggies 30 pack" is the same as "30 pack Huggies."

          • @Grosave Support: Thanks - I'll likely wait until the search gets a bit better.

Feature wise, definitely the ability to see items that are actually a good sale and also a commonly purchased items list (for example, a flag/dashboard showing when any of my commonly purchased items are cheaper than the previous 90 days).

A middle ground could be to show the 12 month rolling average price for products.

            • @Digits: Hi @Digits. Thank you very much for your patience. We just got time to improve the search a bit more this week. It is still not perfect, but it can find your query better than before now. 😉

Re price history, please keep following us closely. 😉

  • This is great! I am a regular user of Grocer but I do prefer GroSave and have the following feedback:

    • While setting up my shopping list, sometimes I chose the wrong product. Is it possible to click on heart icon again to undo it? This is for the website version.

    • Show search center text; what does this do? Thank you for your hard work.

  • Hi @RAE1, Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback!

    • The heart icon is used to add a product to a shopping list. If you don't want it anymore, you can remove it from the shopping list. I will also pass your request to the development team.

    • The "Show search center text" setting on your account page displays helpful info below the search bar on the search page, like your search center location and radius. You can toggle this on or off anytime!

    Thanks again for reaching out!

  • It would be great if you could include Chemist Warehouse for vitamins, health, beauty, personal care and hair care products. And probably a step too far but Fruit World too.

    • +1 for Fruit World!

      • Just put that on our todo list. But we can't guarantee when we will get to it. 😅 The more people request for it, the higher priority it will become for us. 😉 If anyone knows some contact from that store, it'd be awesome to pass to us. Our email address is [email protected]

    • Noted! We have already planned to include Chemist Warehouse. Given the number of requests, we will prioritize its integration.

  • Does it show multi buy prices? Like "Auntie Dai Steamed Buns Bbq Pork 400g 4 Pack" should be 2 for $10 this week, but it's only showing the single price of $8.89 each?

    • Hi where there is more information available about the special it should be displayed for example if you look at the paknsave and new world stores that stock dumplings on special you will see it by the store under the price. Can you tell us the location of the store so we can check? Thanks

      • Just search for the product I mentioned across all Woolworths stores.

  • Search algorithm is quite messy. A simple search term like "Cooking Oil" will yield results like cooking chocolate or cream or cooking wine. It's a long way to go.

    • Search has been one of our biggest challenges so far. Our team is actively exploring different solutions to make it better. It's a complex issue, but we're committed to improving the search experience for our customers. We appreciate your patience as we work through this.
