Recommendation for Good Fragrances/Perfumes for Men

Hi all,

Im trying to improve myself and focus on self care and hygiene. Would love to get recommendations on good smelling , all day lasting , not bank breaking fragrances/perfumes for men that will keep me smelling fresh and nice. I work as a Tradie so I do sweat alot so would like something that is strong (but not too overpowering) and lasts at least 9 hours.
Also can I get recommendations for good smelling detergents. I use Persil Ultimate which works really well for Tradie Clothes but it doesn't have that laundry fresh smell you would like after a wash.

Also happy to take some recommendations on what's popular with the ladies. Thanks in advance for any recommendations

I find that a good antiperspirant is important. Mitchum seems to work quite well for me, and they have an unscented one so you can add your preferred flavour of scent over the top. I don't have any recommendations for perfumes, sorry. It's very subjective and personally I prefer only very subtle scents, anything too strong is off-putting.

EDIT: On a side note, I am amazed how our deodorant market is flooded with mostly just a small handful of very vanilla and not particularly good products. It's sort of like how Coca Cola and Pepsi have cornered the soft drink market and either buy out or price out the competition, or so it seems. You might find it useful to purchase products from overseas where there's a far greater variety to choose from.

I got some David Beckham spray at Chemist Warehouse. It's very nice. Not sure it lasts all day tho….I use Nivea Sensitive roll on for anti sweat and as I do a bit of exercise. Wife complains heaps if I forget it so I guess it works well when I do use it lol otherwise she'd complain then too…

We use Persil Professional liquid in the wash. It's very effective and things smell clean.

I refuel planes and get the odd splash of Jet fuel on my clothes. It's pretty stinky stuff so if that happens I'll put my work pants on soak in a bucket with a fairly good dose of Sard powder to soak over night before I wash them….. Maybe you could consider that….

I tend to have expensive tastes when it comes to this, however Calvin Klein Eternity smells amazing. A classic scent that lasts well and has become really affordable compared to what it used to cost. Scent can change from person to person on skin contact, so you really need to try them on before buying. Try the Chemist Warehouse - around $50 for 100ml on sale most weeks, and should have sample to try. Having said that - this one does not smell great on my man, but has made my knees buckle when smelt on someone else. My partner prefers Mitchum deodorant over all others, he never ever smells even after a football game.

    You also try here: https://www.perfumenz.co.nz/

They have perfumes cheaper than chemist.warehouse etc.

They are legit, probably grey market sellers.

Regarding laundry, look into laundry stripping on Reddit. It works wonders on odours, saved all my thermals from being binned.

Wow! Thanks for this tip mate. I had some expensive white sheets that have started to go slightly yellow. Did the stripping method on them yesterday and it worked a treat. Was going to throw them out!

      • No problem, it's awesome eh?

It cost me $120 NZD (Approx) to get two 100ml perfumes sent to NZ including postage.
I gifted an Aventus creed dupe - Many compliments about the scent but i'm not sure how long it lasts for, it smells strongly when first applied; we opened the metal fastened top to decant some into a small glass roller bottle (purchased from Aliexpress) so the perfume can be reapplied throughout the day if necessary.

    Hi mate,

Some good tips above. Creed aventus, tom ford f fabulous, any aesop perfume etc are all great choices. Theres a retail chain in aus called palermo if you happen to be heading/ have family/friends going over. They do replicas of all perfumes, and are $35 for 50ml. Great value.

https://www.fragrantica.com/ is a good website to search reviews and info on perfumes.

If you find a perfume scent you like, you can spray a couple spritz into a body moisturiser tub you use. (aveeno is good). Avoid eyes and face.

As said above however, sometimes a scent smells great on someone else, but not so good on yourself! So just test some and see what works.

If you want that laundry fresh smell, try adding some fabric softener along with the persil. I only use like a quarter of a capful when washing partners work clothes and they smell so fresh afterwards. Like others have said, different scents smell completely different person to person so you really do have to try a few to find one that works for you. The annoying thing is, I would say you generally get what you pay for with scents, so can be worth splurging a bit more for a nice one.

  • The 2 no brainer fragrances are Acqua di Gio and Chanel Bleu. You can't go wrong with either.
