Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a place to order birthday cake for the upcoming 1 year old birthday party in Central Auckland location?

Thank you

How fancy are you thinking? And how many people are you wanting to feed? Supermarkets, including Costco have called of various sizes and qualities, and they're not too expensive. Personally, I quite like the Original Foods brand, available at most supermarkets nationwide, or by advance order online. They have a good collection of slab cakes and round cakes, all reasonable quality and price.

The other option if you need something special (GF, vegan, custom, etc) is to try the Cheesecake Shop, but they are more expensive for the same size cake.

Second Cheesecake shop. They have quite a few outlets in Auckland and beyond + offer $5 off voucher or signing up to their " Family".

    • second the original foods ones. we get them for work birthdays from Gilmours and are great value.

  • With younger kids we have loved the opportunity to have a bit of fun and just make a cake ourselves - using a recipe you have used and have experience with (so you know people will like it and it will be somewhat a success). You can use different cake tins (you can buy to get repeated use or hire so a small fee if you are after a special shape) - then go crazy decorating it with stuff that the kid(s) love - eg a plain chocolate cake can have a corner broken off and crumbled on top, with some diggers placed to make it look like they are in a quarry etc - green sprinkles for grass etc etc. It doesn't need to look perfect it just needs to align with the kids passions and be exciting (for them).

If you want to buy something (I totally get it - sometimes it just works to buy something), it really depends - cakes can be one of those things that are either baked in bulk (ie costco/supermarkets) or are bespoke with quality ingredients - and each is priced accordingly.

We have specific dietary requirements in our house, so we either make things ourselves, or if buying a cake our go to is Cake and Co (https://www.cakeandco.co.nz/) and have loved each and every one we have had over the years.

For nice and fancy cake we sometimes goto https://gateauhouse.co.nz/

For birthdays, we get eggless cake from https://www.bakeandbeans.co.nz/. Have been getting from there since last 8 years now. We give them the design & size, choose the flavour. One of the best eggless cakes. There black forest(must try), pineapple, choco-orange & chocolate cakes are great. Moist, juicy and not too sweet. All guests have always loved there cakes and most of them don't even know that the cakes are eggless, so Highly recommend them.

    • how much are the eggless cake from bakeandbeans?

cant se eprice on their website

Depends if you are ordering custom cakes or standard ready circle ones(From memory around $50-$60 for 8" I guess). For custom cakes single layer I think around $130+ for 9".

They are on Doordash i think

  • I have a friend that makes amazing decorated cakes - she's in the North Shore of Auckland, and it's pick-up only, so if that's not an issue please check her Instagram profile (@ohsweetie.nz) and get in touch

  • Oh forgot about this one. It was recommended by a friend and said the cake was good. Not sure on the location though

  • I've tried quite a few cakeries at this point; the most underrated supermarket ones are the Original Foods ones (with the orange monkey). Their lemon and raspberry has a good balance of zest and sweetness, while the cake itself retains it's moisture for a soft and fluffy texture.

For the cakeries, Gateu House used to be my go-to, but the cake itself feels too dense and dry over the past few years. Cheesecake shop doesn't quite have the exotic cake feel to them. Bluebells cakery has been my go-to now. They're like the boujee version of the Original Foods cakes; their banana & salted caramel cake is pretty bomb, the inner cream layer has the slightest hint of ginger which wraps up all the flavours real well. Would definitely recco Bluebells!

  • Love cakes from Original Foods - best value

For cake shop, bluebell cakery - good choice with delivery service. Have eaten their big slab cake many times in company's events.
