Just remember to cancel. Got stung last time when I got an eSIM for Australia.

      • +2

There's a tick box for a reminder 3 days before expiry. So hopefully that works :P

Can probably get something similar from AliExpress if you're not in a rush

yeah I also considered Temu/Aliexpress, but I fly on July 4th with two young kids, and I'm hopefuly that this might entertain the eldest.

      • Hopefully arrives in time!

Looks like Dick Smith via urbanglobal sell another with double the battery power but not as cheap ($32 delivered)

        • Yes. Youngest's passport too….it's been 7 weeks since we applied and still no sign. Unnervingly close to the point where we'll have to pay to expedite…

Yes. Youngest's passport too….it's been 7 weeks since we applied and still no sign. Unnervingly close to the point where we'll have to pay to expedite…

If it's a child's first passport they have always taken much longer than just renewing an adult one.

Same is true if the child has grown / changed a lot and the photo looks completely different.

Pretty sure our eldest's first passport took a couple of months at least, although that was a long time ago :-)

            • @Alan6984: Yes. A friend in Finland applied for his child's from there in April, so using that as a benchmark, but we'll see.

          • @beatthatflight: I applied for my kids in april, only got the passport last week.

            • @spam: beginning or end of April?

              • @beatthatflight: Mid april, around 14th?

              • -1

@beatthatflight: I applied in May and got my passport despatched 5 days later, not including delivery. Standard service.

Waiting time when I applied was 10 weeks. A friend applied a month earlier than me and I got mine before him because he had to wait for the entire processing time.

I don't think the complexity of the passport adds much waiting time as suggested, the majority of the waiting is just the wait to get to the front of the queue so a person can start working on your application. Until you get to the front no one is looking at your application. The reason why there's such a long processing time is because there is a backlog. Applications being made are not being looked at until 9 weeks later.

The reason why I got my passport before everyone else was because I got my identity verified by the Identity Verification Service for my realme verified identity at the same time I applied for my passport but in different applications.
The Department of Internal Affairs handles both passports and Realme and uses the Identity Verification Service to do the processing. Since they had just verified my identity for my realme verified identity, it automatically did my passport with it, or the employee saw my passport application and verified both of them.

This meant I didn't have to wait in the passport queue which was 10 weeks to be seen but I waited in the realme verified queue which was only 2 weeks to be seen.

                Totally anecdotal though.

Apr 26 - Realme verified application sent through
May 2 - Passport application sent through
May 7, 9:43 AM - Your RealMe identity has been verified
May 7, 10:23 AM - Despatch confirmation: Bill's New Zealand Passport

Have you not heard the saying "don't get high on your own supply?"

I highly suggest laying off the flights.

        • +2

But, but, travel! Besides, I can stop whenever I want…

          • @beatthatflight: Isn't that what they call 'Flying the profits' (or something like that)?

    • yeah for new user deal you can get this for less then $18nzd free shipping that lets you play more then just nes games and you can add your own roms and it dose a good job emulating the games

Now that Delta Emulator is available on mobile devices it's almost not worth paying for anything. Been keeping myself busy with GoldenEye, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, and Zelda!

    • having a high end phone it was best to get a Mobile Phone Controller and use the hardware that way i didnt have to have two devices.

  • I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying it's not 500 games there are a lot of double-ups. Can anyone confirm?

    • +1

Thats usually the case when the high number is a selling point. The real sneaky ones have levels of games as separate games

    This paragraph confuses me:

    Endless Playtime
Powered by a lightweight rechargeable battery, enjoy up to 1.5 hours of uninterrupted gaming action. No need to worry about running out of juice – this console is designed for extended play!

  • Wow, just noticed that AliExpress doesn't do combined shipping like Temu? I added 5 things to the cart and when I went to pay, it added up all the shiipping costs from all the items..

    • +1

Items come from different sellers unlike Temu, so make sense. Best to find items with free shipping

      • +2

I believe Temu might have distribution centers in china things sellers ship to like Amazon

    • +1

Look for Choice items. They all get combined fast shipping and free above US$10 I think. Nowadays I get most of the items within 10 days.

Also, if you keep items in cart and go to Coins -> discount finder (Select buy now), many times it is even cheaper then all coupons combined.

      • It's interesting because that coins discount finder thing has almost always been more expensive for me than using the coupons.

        • Not always, but buy now has been cheaper for me. Not adding to cart though. And sometimes coupons work if the amount is above the limit.

There will be multiple sellers for same item so go all the way to checkout to see the final price.

Is it even legal to sell a product like this? I understand Chinese marketplaces being lax about this, but Dick Smith / Kogan is different.

    • I presume it's like a nice little line item for Nintendo etc - may as well earn a small bit from their classic games?

    • no its all over trademe too, its up to Nintendo to sue or send a cease and desist, then they will just trade under another name.
this unit has the games stored on the flash so its not simple to change roms.
