Last week to get the full government contribution for kiwisaver

30 of June coming up is when we need to have contributed $1042.86 to get the governments $521.43 for free added to our kiwisaver.
Most kiwis with kiwisavers are probably aware but this reminder may help some

Lost my job a while ago and haven't really had any spare money to go into Kiwisaver unfortunately

That sucks. Difficult to change lifestyle to suit a lower income. But reducing costs can be interesting and rewarding. Too late for this years kiwisaver.
Not the topic of this thread but thinking about making the most of every resource you have and reducing every expense you have is the basic strategy. Lowering life quality last.
Youve got the resource of more time so its surprising what you can do

Be aware when you first sign up, the government contribution is scaled down with how much of the year you have been enrolled. So sign up now and aim to put in the ~1050 to earn that contribution for next year.

You will get the full contribution if you were enrolled by the 1st July 2023 even if you haven't contributed anything up until now.
However, if you are not currently a Kiwisaver member then it done on a pro-rata basis for the amount of time you have been a member.

Thanks bigcheese. Will be getting the full contribution.
And sorry for the new kiwisavers if they don't but its only the first year.

    • found this on IRD website " If you're contributing to KiwiSaver, scheme the government will contribute up to $521.43 each year"
So it is pro-rated for the first year if enrolled after 1st July
