How's Your Weighted Blanket?

Well, after a good five years of use, my weighted blanket has had it. The zips have come away, beads have been pooling at the edges for a while and now a leak has sprung, so I think it's high time to start the search for a new one. I've been using the adaptive series from TherapyBlanket for some time and I'm inclined to get my next one from there too.

Eager to hear your thoughts, feelings, opinions, recommendations about your weighted blankies.

    Oh my. I just did a search to see if I could help but it seems is no longer sold. I bought one from Adairs a few years ago for cheap (as in, less than $150). Got an 11kg blanket and I absolutely love it. It's been easily 4-5 years, no dirt (I use it in between a sheet and a top cover, so that seems to help - it has no cover, so you can't really wash unless it's surface).

    Not one stitch has come apart.
    My kids have those you used to buy on the old 1-day and I just wash the cover. No issues.

    I know a friend who managed to grab one on TradeMe, 14kgs, but they only seem to be sold in Australia (you probably can get them sent to NZ, but it will cost you) - Therapy Adaptive Weighted Blanket.

    I personally find (for an adult setting):
    - The heavier, the better;
    - if the cover is too fiddly and moves around, I don't bother;
    - If it's not washable, I don't use it directly on me, I use some cover.

    Hope my lack of help helps. 😅😑

    • Sucks that Adairs doesn't still offer that one, ah well. Thanks for that :)

  • I have a Somni - I contacted them for a discount and they offered me a display model for ~$150. It's very good with a nice cotton cover and uses zips instead of ties. I'm probably going to sell it and switch to a bearaby one I found in Australia, it's a different design with no beads and organic cotton only, weaved together. Has gaps in the weave so more breathable & usable in the summer time (Google for a visual).
