Hi team. Wondered if anyone knows of any current discounts or codes for a car rental in Auckland. Thanks

Oh excellent! That's a large discount, was definitely worth asking. Thank you scrappycoco.
Just for me with carry on only, so just need a compact for three days.
Pre code $675
After code $217
Just be aware that some codes are conditional on the hirer being associated with the code either by employment or membership with the organisation the code is associated with, the risk being voiding insurance.

Can you provide a lil more info on that AleBeenrenhoff?

Often you own insurer will extend your coverage to include a hire car for a week or two, and usually (no guarantees!) at a very reasonable cost.
It is frequently cheaper / better than the insurance offered / sold by the car hire company.
If you are a frequent user of hire vehicles (especially if you are doing so on business), you can get it included in your premium for the year (I'd guess with some limits on duration / number of hires, but maybe not, since you can't be driving two cars at the same time).
I've usually gone via a broker, as many times they can get better cover at the same or a better price, and if you need to claim, they handle it all for you.
@Alan6984: I have been able to get insurance that covers the paying full insurance excess of the rental agreement. I have never rented a car from a company that would allow you to remove their insurance entirely from the vehicle, only waive the excess. Third party excess insurance is usually cheaper and often included with premium credit cards.
The rental company insurance is contingent on having a valid agreement with the rental company. If you look closely at the rental agreement it is likely you will find a clause that voids the agreement if you use a code to get a discount that you are not entitled to use. As this voids the rental company insurance you are now liable for the entire cost of the event that triggered the claim, and the third party insuring the excess will not pay it as their is no excess to pay.
Be careful using random rental discount codes and at least look at the agreement so you know what you are signing for.I have never rented a car from a company that would allow you to remove their insurance entirely from the vehicle, only waive the excess.
Okay - I'm fairly sure that we have had agreements with Avis that did remove all the insurance component, but its possible I am wrong, or that something has changed in recent years. Maybe also it comes down to your negotiations with them, and you couldn't get it removed?
I agree you should carefully read the rental agreement though - you are correct about that at least!
Or just get travel insurance - many people only look for travel insurance when going international - but when we have been using a rental car regionally, we get travel insurance which covers many things in addition to the rental car. Far cheaper and with more benefits (which arguably you will never use - but still) :)
