SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder

Hi

Reaching out to the hive mind. It seems our special boy 9 year old cat Momo, one of three, will need to go on a dedicated diet to manage his progressive renal failure and no teeth situation (he was literally allergic to his own teeth so had to have them out a few years ago).

We need to get a feeder thats tied to a microchip to ensure he cant wolf the non sanctioned food down. The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder ticks the box but Priceme / Pricespy isn't helpful on what these may run for if ever on sale.

Anyone have one and what did you pay? Or internet points for whoever can find the lowest current price within NZ or shipped in from offshore.

Cheers

  • We have one, paid $95 secondhand on Trademe

We have one cat who is overweight and on a diet, and the other one underweight who has the pet feeder. It took awhile to get him used to it, in the end we went on holiday and asked our pet sitter to keep refilling it and he worked it out for himself.

    • Good shout on TradeMe, that may yield a result from a quick look

  • This might help you. The Amazon prices are in USD and the lowest ever was around $73 USD in 2019:

And it seems like you can get one for $239 NZD from Trade Tested:

Unrelated, but I'm getting a puppy soon and I planned on calling him Momo, what a coincidence.

    • $73USD is a bargain!

We got Momo from a cat rescue, along with an unofficial brother Hugo (was actually a female cat) he'd bonded with there.

He picked us, but we did like the name too, weirdly because it reminded us of the "Momo" dumplings we ate while travelling in Sikkim (NE India) and Nepal.

  • Can't comment on the feeder sorry. But we had that same issue with our boy. Strange thing isn't it? I assume the tooth extraction worked? It doesn't always. We did half the teeth but it made no difference. So from there it was just a steroid shot every few weeks. Wasn't a great quality of life so from there we decided euthanisation was the only option left.
I'd take an objective look at Momo's life quality and decide if there might be a tough decision you need to make here. Even if the extraction worked for the Stomatitis isn't kidney failure pretty terminal in the end as well?

    • Yeah, he had them all out and he was/is fine since. Still manages to bring home the mice and eats the cat biscuits fine too, totally the boss of our household. He's a happy as cat and has regular blood tests which have consistently been at the borderline point of the range of concern for years, but the latest results showed a bit of a dip so vet has recommended get a bit stricter with his special diet. There may be a time in the future we need to make a tough decision but the vet assures us we're nowhere near that yet.

  • Have one - think it was around 200 or 300 from Animates. It works, but my cat still requires a human to take it over to the bowl despite being able to open it herself now <sigh>. They sell a separate plastic back cover in case you have another nosy/hungry cat taking advantage of the open lid

  • For the internet points, $225.99 at Pet.co.nz with free delivery

    Edit: screwed up price

  • I got a couple when my kidney failure boy had to not eat the other food, and the others had to not eat his food because it was damn expensive.

Was in the mid 200s for each, I got the connect one but its pretty limited in what it can do other than limiting which cats can use each of them and getting a pretty inaccurate weight of what has been eaten.

The back cover is essential. They will also not work properly when beside each other, need some space between them otherwise one will close on one cat when the other gets a cat in it sometimes.

Get additional bowls when you get it, as they are annoying to clean with a seal around the top that needs a good soak to get the food out of it.
