Is 23 Ultra or S24 Ultra Better?

Looking to switch from iphone user to android. Wanting a display like samsung S23 Ultra or S24 Ultra.

Anything within similar range and cheap too? Been considering S23 alot but since new S edition is about to launch, S24 ultra is on special too and bit cheaper than s23 Ultra. Comparing it with Mightyape since they have stock.

I don't know the answer but if you get the S24 Ultra from JBHifi you can get a free S22.

    • yeah i saw, even pb tech has the same offer.

If the s24Ultra is cheaper than the s23Ultra … definitely get the S24U - there are some minor hardware tweaks that make it better. Not to mention the extra years of support they have from the s24 going forward.

Still on the S21U for the last 3 years - no complaints whatsoever

    • Or should i wait for the new one?

      • The new one will most likely be out in Feb/Mar next year if you are OK to wait that long.

      • Id wait if you are prepared to pay the price.

Right now with it slightly cheaper and a free s22 ( maybe worth 600 on TM or Marketplace) , could be a decent buy.

If you would rather have the headphones /watch and or something else wait and get it bundled (PB tech does good pre-order bundles) .

I am definitely waiting, I am hoping for it to be a bit better design wise.

  • Is one exynos and one snapdragon in NZ? I feel like someone would know.

      Both are snapdragon.

In the 23 series all were snapdragon. But in the s24 series Only the ultras are snapdragon in NZ.

  • S24u flat screen
    S23u slightly curved screen

I have gone from s22 to s24u recently. I find the phone a little pointy on the corners and is a lot bigger than i am used to. It's a great phone though.

My wife has s23u. I find my camera (s24u) to be slightly better.

$2,387 at pbtech, and the wall charger is not included!? OMFG.

Out of interest, what are the tangible features of this Android phone that make it any better than, say, a Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro?

Yeah I don't get it, saving all that money being a cheapie then spending over $2k (or even over $1k) on a phone, not for me but must be some good reasons. I upraded to a S10e 2 years ago cos I wanted something that wasn't huge, it's perfect :D

    • Samsungs depreciate like crazy but you'll have a much easier time selling it than you would a xiaomi. Accessory availability is a big selling point I guess as well for a lot of people, and some people don't have a lot of faith in the software that xiaomi pop on their phones security wise.

And if you have other samsung stuff they work together well.

Im well and truly in the used phones side of things, only bought one brand new and kinda regretted it seeing the prices fall out of them

The more narrow field I think is 'what does an s24 ultra that A series phones from samsung dont' and it gets really tight

It's pretty much the same phone, aside from the usual generational improvements of slightly better speed, battery life, camera(s), display. Samsung's big selling point was the AI features for this generation, but they then rolled them out to S23 models as well. I'd say the real cheapie play would be to buy a used S23 Ultra for ~$1k from TradeMe/Marketplace.

  • I've had both and they are really similar.

S24U definitely has better battery life and is a little snapper to use.

I think I like the non curved edges on the S24U.

Never use any of the Ai features on the newer model.

  • I will go for s24u just for the fact it is flat as the curve of s23u dont hold on to any screen guards specially glass ones.
