If anyone want cheaper one and don't mind made in China, there are plenty on Aliexpress. I bought a similar one from Aliexpress, 9inch display 1024x600, android 8(claim to be android 12 but the version number is modified), plus a reverse camera for VW Polo, for just $110 including GST and shipping.

The installation can be done by one person, and it is not that much hassle. I am not a technician myself but installed it within an hour. The wireless Android Auto works perfectly on the cheap unit and the android on itself is not lagging too(with play store and GMS). Not sure about Apple Carplay since I don't have iphone.

    • Could you link me which one you got?

I bought a 2nd hand one on TradeMe which was originally from AliExpress. Haven't been to happy about it. A bit laggy, can't seem to get Android Auto to work so I just make do with Bluetooth audio.

      • https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005955737131.html The "T3 2G 32GB" option is the one I got.
There are a lot of different models for different cars, better search with "your car model android auto", e.g. I searched "VW Polo Android Auto" to find my one. My neighbour bought one for his swift that has a different looking and come with a face plate to replace the original face plate in order for a perfect fit, so I think every car will be different.

        • Yeah the unit is different. But the interface looks the same.

          Thanks for that.

They’re almost all made in China; that’s not a useful metric. What is useful is whether you want a good usable interface that’s been planned by UI/UX experts or if you want something crappy that’s going to have rough edges.

I know it goes against the cheapies ethos, but I’d much rather pay slightly more for a significantly better experience and product. 😅

Vice Versa though with android it’s rather taken care of this issue.

I have a reasonably high powered one from China, including moulding for my outlander so it seems we’ll stock. Runs Spotify and tyre pressure monitoring and I’d likely never go back to likes of Sony etc now as it’s a downgrade on functionality.

  • The professional installation fee for this things would be more expensive than the unit itself.
