we supposed to be cheap here xD

      • $35 isn't bad really

        • Are Sky having NZ specific coverage of NZ athletes?
Sometimes we are better watching US coverage for the NZ athletes who train and complete in the US as the US actually provide coverage of them.

          • @Sickman: I assume it is the same as what they do every Olympics they have the rights.

For high profile events with New Zealanders: take the international feed, and overlay their own commentary with a local focus. And cut over the international feed for interviews, intro's etc.

For everything else I assume they just play the international feed with international commentary.

Sometimes you get to choose. The international event commentary tends to always be done by somebody who is an expert in the sport, where for the local commentary, it is basically impossible to achieve this.

            • @scott: Yeah that my thoughts too. So better with the US coverage unless they are going to podium where they will appear in the BBC or Aussie feed as well.

I've been using vipbox for years for sporting streams, just make sure your adblocker is on and working or else you'll be inundated with ads and popups.

VPN to the BBC as always.

  • apollogroup.tv

  • Got a sub to Stan tv for the rugby and a lifetime sub to Getflix, so will be watching it in 4K.

    • Curious about Getflix.
Can you pay for one region, eg. Turkey or India. And then using Getflix use the streaming service and watch shows like you are in another country?
How does it work if e.g. I pay for Amazon Prime Video, and want to watch AU Prime will that work, or does it always default to US?

What do you currently use, any problems with some sites?

I bought my Lifetime Getflix subscription for $39, 9 years ago and am getting my moneys worth out of it.
I have access to my sons Australian Amazon Prime Video account and have no problems with it.
I have also have Matt Huismans IPTV set up on a Shield using Sparkle tv and get to stream all the NZ and Aussie TV channels using the Getflix IP in my router.
There is a "portal" to set which countries tv channels you want to watch … mine is set to Australia.
Netflix and Kayo were/are pro active in stopping viewing from another country and you may have problems using Getflix.

Getflix costs more than Surfshark and NordVPN and is worse lol

      • What services is it worse for?
I'm looking at it for my old folks. So need something that's set-and-forget
They get tech frustrated easily and if something doesn't work or is too hard they give up.
I guess this might not be the best forum for comparison chat, but if you want to be super brief that would help me.
        Thanks.

From my very limited experience with it, some streaming services simply do not seem to work on some locations. Netflix can be very sensitive with it (this is specifically about their VPN, never used the 'Smart DNS' feature, though NordVPN and Surfshark also offer that).

To answer your questions further above, you would pay for Amazon Prime Video for example and have access to NZ content by default because of your location, but if you set the VPN or Smart DNS location to US, you would have access to content from the US. This can depend on the streaming service and VPN provider though, as lots block VPN IP addresses.

Their smart DNS is great, highly recommended. Have used their VPN a few times, it's ok, but smart DNS benefits from not having the overheads that a VPN does.

The biggest issue with it is that if you have a dynamic IP assigned by your ISP, you may need to update the registered IP to match your current one (usually only changes after a router restart). Easiest way to do this for someone who isn't tech savvy is to provide then with a bookmark to the URL that Getflix provide to update the registered IP.

You can update the DHCP config in their router to set the DNS address to the Getflix ones.

You can configure the region for specific services from their portal.

About as set and forget as it gets with this sort of stuff.

Watch for free via BBC iPlayer

    1. Connect to a UK VPN. More likely to be found for free than Australia
    2. Open an incognito tab in Chrome
    3. Create an account on bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
    4. When it asks you "Got a TV License?" click "I have a TV License."
    • Thanks I use SmartDNS and it is working! Do you know BBC have different category so I can select which sport you want to watch?

  • Anyone go Smart DNS + 9now + Chromecast route get "Network Error" while try to stream?(Was ok last night)
    (Streaming on laptop still working)
