Find Me Deals: SK Sheets / Goose Duvet / Mattress Protector

Hi

Have SK bed frame for to arrive in October (current bed too small with kids).

Looking at getting a peace lily latex mattress and latex topper at that point.

Will need to get sheet set and a larger duvet. We currently having a 95% Hungarian goose down duvet which we love so will probably go with the same again, expectation about $750-1000 cost for the duvet?

Also a mattress protector bc fluid spills really destroy latex apparently.

Any recommendations / deals?

  • NZ SK is the same as Australian King size. Check out AU sites for deals, you may find better prices there, especially if you can get free shipping on Amazon or something.

    • Yup might get a "doona" from au ebay…

  • Sold beds for years. Just beware that some people find that a waterproof mattress protector makes their mattress feel a bit firmer. We used to get people all the time say that their mattress feels different to how it felt instore, and 9 times out of 10 it was the mattress protector that was the problem. If your mattress has a pillowtop or cushioned layer of any kind on top of it then a waterproof matt pro will completely ruin the luxurious feel of it. We use one on our bed, if you want to keep your mattress healthy you really do need one, but I really notice the difference when we take it off to wash it and sleep on the mattress without it for a night while it's drying, I love it, it makes it feel like you're sleeping in a different bed.

We use this one, https://www.smithscity.co.nz/beds/manchester/mattress-protec…, there are other kinds available but if waterproofing is your main objective then the kind with a PU layer is the way to go.

    • Thanks for recommendation. Could always chuck the protector under the latex pillow top as a compromise.

  • Hi,

"Will need to get sheet set and a larger duvet."

Normally they have plenty of good stuff on 'REDUCE' shelves at Briscoes and BB&B (bed, bath and beyond). Different sizes, certainly. 👍🏻

    Cheers…. 👋🏻

  • Watch Onceit and others, but SK sheets don’t always come in good colours. Otherwise watch for sales at Wallace Cotton and Foxtrot Home (for linen sheets).

If you can, get a cali king duvet, the extra width helps when the kids are in the bed with you hogging the duvet. Makes it a little more difficult to find covers on sale though from the outlet sites.

Don’t buy a duvet or cover from any Australian sites, their SK is different to ours, got caught out there. We have a summer weight duvet from a site over there that we cannot find covers for here.

And I bought a latex mattress for our bed even though my wife didn’t really want it, it is now gone. It was very firm even though we got the medium soft version of the brand we got. Also, you’re supposed to rotate, and at the superking size they are bloody heavy and also hard to manipulate because they are so floppy. A few years of told-you-sos and we replaced it with a sleepyhead mattress. If you want latex, maybe consider getting two king singles and a topper like they do in hotels.

    • AU King = NZ S.King
      AU SK = NZ Cali

Interesting about your latex experience, was that peace lily or innature or something else?

      • Ah, good to know re the sizes.

The mattress was from innature, we’re talking 10 years ago so may be different now. We ended up having to buy one of their soft toppers, which helped. I have since heard the construction process makes a big difference.

A mate of mine swears by his Winkl mattress.

    • Yes agree about oversizing the duvet. We had a king size duvet on our queen bed and wouldn't of wanted anything smaller.
