iPhone Battery and Screen Replacement

Anyone can suggest me cheap place for this repairs.

Iphone 12 pro max needs new battery
Xs max needs whole new screen.

I see people on facebook for screen repairs, but just want something good quality and cheap if you have visited any in past.
Battery is best directly by apple but incase someone found someone cheaper with quality?

  • Depends if you want genuine or third party parts.
Genuine parts will likely run you into the ground because apple.

When you get the replacement from a non authorized agent you want to find out if they will retain things like truetone which requires a special copying machine same with the battery health.

If you have insurance that is another option they will likely write off the unit and you will get a new one.

  • In NZ it is difficult because we don't' have apple stores to get batteries replaced. So unless you live in an area that does authorized repairs it means sending it away and quite a big cost invovled, plus being without the phone for a period which isn't good for many. Then you have to give them your login info or they wipe the phone. Then you have to pay for icloud to back it up, or do a local backup on a PC. Big hassle. I think apple should be required to sell their original batteries so people can replace them themselves as they even admit they are consumables. The authorized repair to get a battery replaced in NZ is high I think over $100. At one point they did drop the price by a lot for battery replacements but since then it has been hiked So if you have a phone like an SE2, it may not be worth it. I just keep mine plugged into a powerbank.

    • Please, never give anyone your Apple login or even your iPhone passcode. I know some AASP do not follow Apple’s protocols.

FYI - If you ring the Apple Support team (0800 127 753), they will send you a shipping box free of charge. I also recommend AppleCare but some providers do offer same day battery replacement which is quite convenient if you don’t have a spare iPhone.

I agreed regarding the battery replacement cost, it’s quite expensive. $100 is acceptable but $195 is too expensive.

      • I agree and didn't but they said the alternative was that they would completely wipe the phone and would have to send it back if I didn't agree. This was the retailers apple authorized service agent as well. I can' see why they needed the passcode when it was just an apple battery replacement and they should be able to access service menus for a battery without a passcode. I don't think apple gave the option to send it in when I did it a few years ago, I recall the requirement was to contact one of their NZ service agents instead.

    • Would be nice if apple added Maintenance mode like they have on Samsung devices so it does not need to be backed up or reset without any access to end user data.

PBTech is in the process of becoming Apple authorized so you might have better access to repairs shortly where places like Service Plus don't exist.

User replaceable parts will be a long way away given how slow the program has been in the US

Service Plus is the authorised apple repair, I've used them about three times to replace battery, it's not that expensive and their service has been great, once while they were replacing 12 Pro battery, they somehow damaged the screen, so they replace the screen free of charge and it's an authentic apple display.

    • I wonder how they could damage the screen from replacing the battery, maybe they damaged the ribbon cable. I got an estimate of $135-$195 from Apples website using a service agent for a battery replacement plus transport, which is expensive when the phone is probably only worth 200-300 and may only get 1 more year of iOS updates. .

      • they still release security patches even if they dont update iOS for older devices… have a 7 here still getting security patches.

    • Can vouch for service plus, they do warranty repairs for a bunch of big brands like Toshiba, and they're used by a bunch of retailers that outsource their repairs.

Its gonna be cheaper to replace the xs than replace the screen on the xs (with a genuine part)

  • Doing a DIY repair is a lot easier than you'd think - as long as you take your time and follow instructions step by step
Can get a replacement screen for around 20 bucks from aliexpress.

  • Yeah i saw the battery is like $155 incl and they have it in stock.
Screen is like $600+ so no point in replacing with genuine, but if i have to get refurbish model, from where is it worth it, plus whats the guarantee that it will have genuine display?
What do i do with my current 256gb xs max?

    • Replacing the battery on the iPhone 12 is fine but I don’t recommend paying $600 to fix a XS Max. I would sell it on Trade Me and buy a new iPhone. iPhone 11 or SE 3 is around $800

  • Not sure about iPhones, but I've repaired Android phones in the past. Parts like battery or screen can be found on Aliexpress / Temu / Ebay for cheap and just get a heat gun (I think Ozito heat gun were selling for around $49 at Bunnings recently) and get the adhesives around the screen loose, pry it open with tools (those are cheap too) and just be careful throughout the process.

For screen repair, there are super glues that you can buy from Bunnings that have precise drip control, so you can drip the glue around the screen edges. However, I wouldn't recommend using that, as it can still get messy. There are strips of double-sided tapes that you can buy from Temu or Aliexpress and they are for phone repairs, so just use those.

Or just get Android. They're so cheap and perform well. I have a OnePlus 12R that I got for $500. I'd just buy another one if it breaks. Personally, I would never recommend locking into Apple's ecosystem, especially if you're a power-user who wants full control of your device. Can't get that with iOS, even if you jailbreak.

    • Third party batteries are often poor. Anyone know of a good source for iphone and samsung batteries that are good quality. I understand one of the issues with using a third party part is that you can get warning messages that a non genuine part is in place, and for things like screens, it can disable features like truetone. But a battery is a consumable, so IMO they should be required to sell them as a consumable.

      • Depends on the phone and model. The 3rd party batteries I got for Poco F1 many years back was actually a bigger capacity and it was fine. No issues whatsoever. And same for the battery that I got for my old Redmi K20 Pro.

        • Is it a bigger capacity or does the sticker state a bigger capacity?

          • @coach: Not sure I understand the question.

Bigger capacity != bigger size. You can have a battery with about the same size but different capacity. Anyway, the battery is bigger capacity and fits in the phone perfectly. For example, instead of the original 4000mah, I got a 5000mah battery instead.

Most people just change phones every now and then anyway, so it doesn't really matter too much in the grand scheme of things.

            • @NovaAlpha: I’m questioning whether the capacity is actually bigger or if the manufacturer simply claims a bigger capacity in writing and in the BMS chip, without actually increasing the capacity. It’s common practice on Chinese marketplaces.

              • @coach: Well the ones I got was actually bigger capacity than the stock 4000mah for that particular phone model, but it wasn't exactly the advertised capacity.

For example, my Poco F1 comes with 4000mah battery as stock. If I go and buy a 5000mah aftermarket battery, it may actually only report 4600~4800mah. Could it be due to false advertising? Maybe. Could it be that the battery just lost charge over time, just like any other battery (including stock) would? Maybe. But it sure beats the 4000mah stock and it definitely did last longer.

The aftermarket batteries are dirt cheap, like around $30. I personally wouldn't look too deep into it, not worth the effort.

There are some more reputable brands out there such as Nohon.
