Make money while on ACC

Anyone have any tips to top up the bank account while on acc? Currently stuck at home with a injury to my right leg ruptured calf, so a bit limited to what I can do (can't drive) anyone have any ideas on what I could do to earn a bit of extra money and keep myself entertained? Anything online? Thought about maybe building stuff to sell but people ain't really spending money lately.

  • Locally we don't have any online jobs. Apart from OF. Lol

But on a serious note try the Virtual PA jobs some US jobs show online or travel agent jobs.

  • Write a book ! I did years ago while on ACC - made a few thousand out of it……

    • That's pretty cool. How did you sell it? Amazon self-publishing?

  • Would help to know your occupation or skill set so people might know what you could do. If I was stuck home I'd be tinkering in 3D modling/printing and learning coding, software development or data management but that's stuff that interests.e that could then be monetized. If you're more creative you could turn to something like fiver for those sorts of one off jobs.

Similar suggestion to Everettpsycho but rather than trying to actually earn anything (which might be difficult, low return, and slow burn), maybe just focus on learning / developing new / existing skills such as extending your existing programming skills into a new area (just an example - I appreciate you might not have any programming skills, but whatever skill-sets you do have).

Lots of online courses you could do. For example, many of us probably still have several hundred (thousand?) courses that we picked up free from Udemy when they were being posted here at a rate of hundreds a month in 2023 and earlier.

Likely, there are also more formal online courses you could do from NZ institutions too - some might even be free or very low cost, and possible your employer might be willing to pay for, or subsidise, some of those?

  • Try this for a bit of paid entertainment. Pay is about $100 per hour if you qualify. https://www.people4info.co.nz/

    • Do you know if the rewards are taxable income, like NZCR?

they are not taxable. I have just been asked if I been effected by a problem gambler within the family? I havent so didnt fit the criteria. This would have been via a phone call. I have done quite a few. Haha including one ( a home visit interview) about how did I feel about subsidising low emmission cars and having a surcharge on polluting car. Also lotto, shopping centre, rural post, my dentist etc. You don't get them very ofyen but I find them interesting.

Instead of focusing on making money, why not focus on yourself first? Invest in yourself, that's how you can make money. Upskill yourself, learn topics like machine learning, AI, whatever. OpenAI pays like 400K USD for a mid~senior level engineer. Netflix and Google used to pay 1 million USD for a senior DevOps and SRE engineer. Or learn to invest in stock, real estate, etc.
