Bargaining with Wellington Beds - should I ask for more?

Hi all, we're looking at a bed from Wellington Beds and I'm wondering what their usual "give" is for sales.

Ignoring the perpetual 60% off sale, we're looking at a bed, base and headboard with what looks like free custom sizing and free freight but no added extras like a mattress protector.

Did you negotiate with them and what did you end up getting?

  • Regardless of what their negotiating stance is, I would shop around, and go back to, say, the best three (or whatever number you can justify), and ask them to beat the best one. If they do, go again with the other best offers until you can't get anything better.

If you want to give it a final go, you could go in and say something like, 'If you do it for $X, you've got a deal here and now.' Its the end of the month - you might get a better deal if they are close to some targets :-)

  • Try and get free shipping at the very least. Alternatively try and get mattress protector thrown in. Like Alan said, try 3 places and have a price range you are keen to stick with and let the retailer know that as well.

Went thru this process recently. And remember that when trying mattresses, they are usually softer as they have been on the floor and will start out firmer when you receive it new.
