Big TV Cheap

Looking for a 48"-55" TV for the spare room, so doesn't need to be anything special, but there don't appear to be any decent deals around currently.

Seems that The Warehouse, DickSmith/Kogan, and PB Tech are all offering a ~$600 55" but there isn't much better than that.

Any seen any decent deals lately?

  • Warehouse have a 55 inch at the moment.

I don't know how much of a saving that is. I feel like they do better deals occasionally. Might be a good idea to wait till black Friday?

    • yeah if you're not in a hurry, you can wait until end of this month, end of next (Labour Day), or Black Friday. I've seen that Veon 50" go down to around $400-450

      • Cheers. Yeah everything for the past few weeks has seemed like it’s been on sale for normal pricing

Good to hear you’ve seen it drop to that price. Will been an eye out for Labour Day and Black Friday cheers

    • I wonder if they've fixed the shipping prices. When I purchased mine The Warehouse wanted $65+ while the same TV from the same distribution centre was $20 at Warehouse Stationary.

  • Konka 50" Smart 4K UHD TV (2024) with webOS

    598 bucks…

Not the worst product on the market, tbh. Seems to be a good deal too…

  • Just buy used? Much better value that way

Yeah I’ve been watching for around 2 weeks and it looks like the “normal” used price is around $250 for an older 55”. Sometimes not smart, often quite large bezels etc. at that price, the newer ones that are more energy efficient and better panel tech even at the bottom end is worth new.
At $150-$200 used it would be on. Just got to be patient I guess

I would keep looking at used if you can find a good one. Many people moving out of country so likely can find a bargain. Don't need to be smart, just get a chromecast tv or firebox and that should be enough.

      • Are you from Christchurch? Just asking because I am going to sell my 3yr old 55 inch Veon 4K non smart TV. Will put it on marketplace from next week.

        • Na Auckland unfortunatly. From what I've seen selling used, should be pretty easy to get good money on Marketplace and TradeMe for that

    • For this smaller size, there are lots of people wanting to get larger TVs for sure, and 2nd hand allows people to buy a top brand for a reasonable price.

I got really good value buying second hand. Picked up a 40 inch one for $80 and it came with a cabinet they also wanted to get rid of. Found out the cabinet retails for over $1k, so got $600 selling that on TM

    399$
    currently on offer
i am using since 6 month, this is the best price and picture quality is amazing, no lag

    • Thats AUD
Its $469 NZD (but with free shipping) which is pretty cheap, but from above looks like the Veon one gets lower than that sometimes, so will have to wait for the next big holiday sales and see if DickSmith / Kogan do anything otherwise The Warehouse might

  • Don't know if you're still looking for one, but if you are and don't mind a bit of a drive Dollar Dealers in Hamilton have a 50" Veon 4K set for $349 with a 30 day warranty. https://dollardealers.co.nz/product/veon-50-inch-uhd-4k-smar…

  • Did you find anything? Looks like I need one as well for spare room. Have an old 37" Samsung non- smart lcd which is acting up lately.

I prefer something around 43-48", but if nothing will go with 50 max. I need decent 4k panel as will be using chromecast.

I’ve been watching TradeMe and marketplace. Plenty of 4K options for 350. So I’m thinking with Black Friday sales, supply should increase of the older smaller ones and I’ll be able to pick up a deal for $250 for 55” 4K with a bit of luck

  • Unsure about quality but this Ffalcon 50” is $498 with a free dvd player

Alternatively the 65” is $895 with bonus $150 gift card

Cheers for the share - managed to pickup an old Warehouse (Veon) 55" 4K from a few years ago for under $200 a few weeks back

  • Found a year old LG Qned86 55" for $700 on FB. It also has additional warranty from NL and have the receipt. Happy with it. For TVs I prefer to stick with big brands like Samsung, LG, Sony as I know they will definitely have better panel and decent sound compared to cheap ones. Even it will have better internals for longevity. I like not to have soundbar or external speakers in rooms other than Lounge.
