for the price its a good phone
Personally I'd go with the Moto G24 which is currently on sale at PB Tech for $174.
It shares a lot of the same specs with the Oppo but beats it in a few areas. It has a better main camera, it offers 15w fast charging, it has NFC, 2 speakers compared to the single one on the Oppo, and while both phones use the Mediatek MT6739 Helio G85 chipset for their brains, the one in the Motorola is a newer updated Z model of the chipset that offers slightly better performance, and by slightly I'm talking percentage of a percent gains which will be barely noticeable to most users but still worth mentioning.
Nfc is a big advantage.

Wall charger & cable not included: Add a fast charger & cable from the combo deals below.
Is it normal for a phone to not come with a charger?
@whatsmynameagain: I would say so - chargers are likely just landfill these days with people already having chargers floating around from everything else.
fwiw the last couple of Samsung devices I have purchased over the last couple of years have had no charger included.@AleBeerenhoff: Now that you mention it… I got a new Samsung a few months ago and didn't get a charger. It didn't even register because I have my ol' trusty fast charge wall charger and cable that I'd use even if I got a charger in the box.
Maybe I just never seen it called out explicitly on a listing.
@whatsmynameagain: Yeah pretty standard these days. It sucks but silver lining is USB C is usually the normal.
What about 300-400 range? I've had Xiaomi/Redmi notes for the parents for awhile (larger screens preferred) and am thinking of getting something more mainstream.
A no-brainer for an extra $15, and I even have an Oppo that's called Oddo
Or the Nokia at Harvey Norman. Or the similar Motorola (g04?), or the Redmi Note C at PB tech.
All have the same or similar chipsets, with variations on camera/NFC/etc.
I'd prob go the Redmi, the moto suggested above, or the Nokia.
And the Oppo isn't perticularly cheap - it's been this prices most places since last week.
Actually 100% go for the Moto above. I was just instore checking them out. Mich better phone on the whole.
The Nokia (CO2)is pretty poor with low specs, but is only $110 at Harveys….
@LupinS: Or the Xiaomi Redmi 13c at PB Tech (Ali?}
All are in the $180 range, but the above 2 have 6gb ram, and much better main and selfie cameras, plus NFC (good for loading pocket money on via Wises - they can see the total and how much they are spending).
If anyone finds something better for around
the same price range keen to know. My niece has $150 and wants a new phone (she can prob convince another $150 out of the family - but around $200 is ideal).
OPPO in general is fine, i've had one a while now and no complaints.
Also available in Glowing Black for $159
For Retrospect in 1999 Nokia 5120i $169:
YES 25 YEARS AGO 😭
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1grl31YDCO8Basically my first phone. Only useful on free text weekends case of $$$
500 txt a month.
And you could only be sure of formatting staying the same (so important for those ASCII images and jokes) if your friends all had the same phone.
Of course the probability was pretty high!
This little thing was a massive upgrade!
My next one was an ultra cool unbranded (cause Japan) SoftBank slide out keyboard phone with an awesome camera (cause it was basically a camera with a phone). I thought it was awesome (cause the Maxrix). I showed it to some kids a while back and they thought it was hilarious.
my first phone was Nokia 7260 vodaphone and i remember connecting it to my pc via IR and i never once topped it up but i got free internet :) was only 128kbps (12kb)

I've been eyeing up this phone for my eldest.
If anyone has bought one or used one (or their kids have used one) - will it be ok enough for 11-12 year old? I've been a Samsung user forever so have limited context about Oppo or this phone specifically.
