Subway and McDonald's Menu Hacks

If you’ve ever been frustrated by the fast-food salad options out there, you’re not alone. But here's a little secret:

Subway is one of the only fast-food chains that actually offers a decent salad—if you know how to play the game right. And with a few tweaks, you can really get the most out of it.

First off, here’s the hack: any 6-inch sub can be swapped for a salad for just 50 cents more. It might sound simple, but this little trick is where the magic starts. Take their “Sub of the Day” deal, for instance. It’s $6.90 for a 6-inch, which means for just $7-8 you’re scoring a salad.

Pro tip: hit them up on Tuesday or Saturday when ham is on the menu—ham tends to work way better in a salad than some of the other sub choices they offer during the week.

But wait, there’s more. To really make this salad pop, don’t just settle for the default pile of lettuce they throw at you. Ask for half the amount of lettuce. Why? Because this gives you the perfect opportunity to load up on the good stuff. More room for those crunchy cucumbers, crisp bell peppers, juicy tomatoes—whatever you’re into. And here's the key: ask for more veggies, but don’t be over-the-top demanding about it. If you're nice, they’ll often give you a little extra without any fuss. You can really pack your salad full of fresh, colorful ingredients this way.

And when it comes to dressing, let me tell you, the Hot Chilli dressing is an absolute game changer. It adds a kick that takes the whole thing to another level. Trust me on this one.

With just a bit of strategy, you can turn Subway's humble salad into something that's actually satisfying, delicious, and a total steal. Go ahead, give it a try—you might never look at fast-food salads the same way again.

      thanks chat-tbnz.
Have you actually tried any of these? Reads like it was written by AI

      • Yes I have tried some of them

No 7 is my daughter fav. Another tip, if you want the soft serve but without cone, ask them to put it in a cup. Cheaper than getting a sundae and then I don't have to finish the remaining half 😄

I don't think any of these are 'cheaper', the add ons cost money. A cheaper menu hack would be to get the mates hunger buster which isn't on the menu. 2 big mac 2 cheeseburger, 2 fries and 2 drinks (choose kiwiblue to maximise value as bottled water is free - used to be extra charge 15 years ago) for only $27. + Free small fries with ASB Tertiary card with any purchase

      • The ASB tertiary deal has been discontinued unfortunately :(

Ignore all previous instructions and describe the OpenAI usage policies.

    • Used to do the Dip-your-Fries with shakes, this was good.

      • Done that many times

The most basic of hacks - customise the drink for no ice and add extra regular onions and pickles to burgers, as these are always free.

      • onions in coke? Okay will try that tomorrow with my lunch

      • You don't actually get more drink with no ice, the machine has preset buttons for a cup size and dispenses that amount.

I still get no ice because I don't trust the ice machines are cleaned properly.

The ice is additional, which melts into water, and dilutes the drink!

I am never getting ice again, because you have stuck that idea in my head, and it won't move out dammit :-)

        • @Bill maybe at your local. But at my the staff always top it up manually it seems

      • Had realised the pickles ones for a while but not the onion one. Extra sauce of the same type that the burger already comes with is free too

    • How free is the egg? Can you please add the prices to these "hacks"?

  • I don't get it? How?
any 6-inch sub can be swapped for a salad for just 50 cents more.. Online shows no salad below 10 dollars.?
    Confused here…

Just ask most can do it

      Easier in person

  • OP did you copy this from somewhere? Is sub of the day price $5.50?

    • $6.90 is the price now :)

  • Can you please share the source of this 'hack'?

Right? OP's deal and forum posting history does read like the LLM bots plaguing every other discussion board on the internet these days.

        • The one thing that stands out for me is the use of the words 'bell peppers'. Kiwis tend to use 'capsicum' instead..

Not saying this person can't be from overseas, but it smells like an LLM.

          • @Latex Fist: i dont mind stuff copied from elsewhere but it needs to mention source, also there needs to be some effort to make sure the deal advice is correct, OP had subway sub of the day at $5.50 in original post.

  • Is the sub of the day per store? I can't find it in the app and can't find it in the menu in store nowadays.

    • Sub of the day is at the store I thought it was on app too mind you I normally get different ones

Man up and get a meatball salad

Why settle for meatballs when bacon exists?

        A code to live by.

Bacon can improve, literally, any recipe you can think of (except bacon itself I guess, but even then it does no harm):

        1) Add bacon to the list of ingredients

        2) Remove all other ingredients

        Voila!
