Watch out their gift cards expire in 2-3 months

Noticed a lot of companies doing that now, so damn annoying, should be 12 months minimum.
Trying to profit of ppl forgetting.

      • Do these count as gift cards given away as part of loyalty programmes?

Those are excluded from the Fair Trading (Gift Card Expiry) Amendment Bill that would make purchased gift cards have a minimum 3 year expiry.

        • I know which is why it's happening, but still a shitty tactic

  • Picked up a sander today. I had to ask for the gift card, which the lady at the check out said it was for a $500 spend so had to get her to double check. I also couldn't use a gift card I had towards the purchase if I wanted to get the $50 gift card.

    • Sounds like a pain. Which branch? (So we know to avoid…)

      • Masterton store. I also noticed afterwards that the sander is listed $201 on their web site but in store it was $269. I don't know when the dropped the price as I've been meaning to pick this up for a while so I may go back and get the price difference refunded even if it means giving up the $50 gift card.

        • It happened at some point between about 1pm and 9pm yesterday as I was planning on getting that orbital sander today using their price beat with Bunnings to get it for ~$170, but saw they dropped in price last night

  • Any suggestions on what staples to use the store cards on?
