They are cheap bikes that can go on gravel trails and would be fine for family rides. If you are in Auckland there are heaps of great bikeways you can ride. Cheap bikes like these can fall our of tune fairly easy so either learn how to maintain yourself or take in for regular servicing. Second hand market can be tricky without the right knowledge but you can come across used and older but better models.
Mountain bike, it is not. We've had one for about four years, and yes, they are a good bike for the money. Good quality mechanical disc brakes however the derailer is marginal, but okay, it's certainly not MB but excellent for rail trails. Front shock absorbers are adequate for gravel Road, but the frame itself is quite rubbery for any off-road stuff. As far as maintenance goes like any other road bike or mountain bike, keep it maintained and inside and it will last a very long time.
Contact Robert Bruce (got to get out)or your local bike hub for good maintained second hand bikes of every size
I joined one of his ski trips a few years back, it would be interesting to get hold of him for a second hand bike…
How do you tell the size for these MTBs? I'm 6'3 so I assume L?
6.3 is xl or xxl usually
But don't buy this , buy used from trademe or bike shelf on facebook
What do we think of a cheap mountain bike like these? Our kids are just reaching the age where we could accompany them for a flat family ride, so we don't really have high needs. There do seem to be plenty of second hand options out there which is what I would tend towards I suppose…
