I was jealous that the North had scotch fillet for $22.99 until I saw it was Australian beef.

Was going to buy until I saw Grain Finished :(

      • What's wrong with Grain Finished?

        • 100% grass fed is supposedly healthier with more omega 3’s and a more beefy flavour, but leaner. Grain finished means they spend the last few months eating a high calorie grain diet to pump up the fat, but IMO the beef flavour is not as strong.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong!

          • @kinetic9: Isn't Japanese Wagyu grain finished?

          • @kinetic9: Hmm….might give it a try at that price it seems pretty good

            • @Drcspy: Honestly, it comes down to preference. Some people like fully grass fed, some like grain finished.

It’s been pretty hard to find whole NZ ribeye/scotch fillet for a good price at the moment, so go for it if you don’t mind.

  • "New World Easter Three Day Sale" 🤔

Friken hell, already with this Christmas stuff in October, now Easter too!!

    • Haha, I forgot to edit that out. I wouldn't be surprised if it was for Easter, especially since my local NW has already started putting up Christmas decorations 😂.

wonder when Woolworths pop up their sale?

  • Anyone knows why we can only get Australian steak from the supermarket now? I really prefer grass feed beef.

    • +4

Theres supply chain issues with nz beef happening at the moment. Has been going on for a couple months now. Not sure reasoning behind it, however all NZ Beef has gone up in price and is sometimes hard to find certain cuts. (e.g there was very little nz rump steak available last month)

  • Why do people not like Grain Finished beef ? Is it worse in some way ?

    • +1

I personally like grain finished. I think grass fed taste better but grain fed has more fat/marbelling so grass fed and grain finished seems like the best of both worlds to me.

    • In terms of nutrition, Grass fed has more Omega 3 and a lower Omega 3 to 6 ratio but most other nutrients are likely close enough in value. However, any grain fed beef is likely to be more affected by other factors e.g. pesticides etc.

      • What is the actual difference in omega 3 content?

    Thanks OP
pretty amazing getting scotch fillet steaks for $23 per Kg.

  • From a south islander, new world utterly sucks

    • What’s your reasoning behind this? We live in the North Island… Is it due to the deals being better in NI?

  • +1

Has anyone tried the whole scotch? How was it?
