  • Seems like a good deal. How to pay in USD, as I see payment option in EUR only? Also clicking on random ref link does not take to upgrade option for an existing account.

If you scroll down a bit, on the right under the pricing there's a drop down for the currency

Great product, I have been using it for quite a while with my own domain. Migration from GMail and Google Apps is really good. It includes basic calendar functionality that can replace Google calendar or Outlook too. With Firefox and DuckDuckGo you can be Google-free on the desktop pretty easily.

    • Doesn't look like its available to existing Mail Plus subscribers though.
I tried to do it and it said I wasn't eligible but offered me 50% of the Unlimited plan

      All Proton Plus services.
      One easy subscription.
The offer you selected is not available for Mail Plus subscribers.
But you can get 50% off by upgrading to Proton Unlimited — it’s just 1.50 € extra per month

      • I'm on rrp Proton Unlimited and it offered me 40% off Proton Unlimited Duo

As an alternative, if you have your own domain it's easy to roll your own mail server on a VPS provider.

7 years ago I rolled up a MIAB on a Vultr $5/month server and haven't looked back.

These days I'm on a $10 plan for the larger storage. Mail-in-a-box itself is free. There's also MailCow as well although I have never tried that one.

Setup is very easy, and I spend maybe 30 mins a month doing updates and that's it, has been rock solid for 7 years now.

I'm hosting maybe 30 email address, about 20 domains, and it has autoconfiguration and all of the latest security functions.

Can't get more privacy focused than controlling your data.

Unless you're using an SMTP relay, the pain of IP reputation makes this not worth it.

MXroute is far better value. Their Large black friday plan is still available, $34.50 USD per year for 50GB of storage, unlimited domains, accounts, forwarders (aliases), etc. Very good IP reputation as well.

  • Maybe I'm blind but where is the 50% off family plans?
