Travel Insurance for a Upcoming Trip

As per Subject, I have a family trip overseas coming up, from end Nov to early Jan. Looking for recommendations on where to shop for travel insurance. Not too worried about theft and lost luggage, etc.., more about Medical / health / accident cover.

Cheers

I generally go with insurancesafe. They have a explorersafe outbound at $0 excess which is pretty good imo. use code UNIVIP15 for 15% off incase you go with them

    • You should really shop around, even with that discount they're still far more expensive than TINZ, CoverMore, Tower, or SC.

      • i only use them for inbound and that ends up being way cheaper than anyone else. ex: got $0 excess inbound for $350 for 3 adults

        • Good tip, I'm not sure I've ever thought about insurance in the other direction.

          • @Slogan: Its actually for my mum and dad. I dont take domestic insurance and for international insurance, sometimes insurancesafe turns out quite cheap for $0 excess, if not i just rely on CC insurance

  • We've used both Tinz and Southern Cross in the past. Claimed for rental car excess with Tinz and had no issues, Southern Cross we never had to claim so can't comment.

Southern Cross has become much more price-competitive lately, especially with the budget option 'International Medical Only' cover (which actually does two things: personal liability and medical+evac).

  • We bought our flight tickets with Amex, hopefully their insurance has covered most stuff?

  • My advice: don't go by price alone. Check Google reviews of whatever company you decide.
If a company is cheaper than another but take six weeks to pay a claim, is that really "value"?

  • I have claimed twice on the free Kiwibank insurance through credit card. They use Allianz/Tower.

First claim was for accident including medical in Canada. Claim dealt with promptly and no issues from our side.

Second was broken rental car windscreen in Australia, again no issue.
