Potential security flaw with DOSH

Hi All,

Ever since I added my DOSH to the Google pay I had several unauthorised payments taken from my DOSH account with name Google * VISA001 ***. I have checked with Google and they confirmed it's nothing to do with Google and it was a fraud payment. It is a pain to get these reversed with DOSH with at least 45 days wait time. It has never been an issue prior to addition of Google pay to my DOSH account. It has never been an issue with my other bank VISA and debit card. Is this a security flaw with DOSH? Anyone else had the same issue?

No, I haven’t personally had this problem, OP…

BUT, there are many other reasons I am thinking of ditching my Dosh card now. I don’t think they have a niche in the market anymore - they’re just like most other visa cards, IMO.

    • I am considering to ditch DOSH once for all due to lack of security versus major bank security.

Since Dosh uses the Visa network, it falls under the Visa’s Zero Liability policy, so you should be covered thru it will take some time when you file a claim with Dosh.

I personally plan to ditch them soon since I just signed up with Revolut.

    • why is revolut better? for $NZD transactions?

I do lots of shopping overseas so the rates better and if you sign up to their metal plan you get 0.5 cashback spending from local and overseas plus other perks.

You decide if its worth it for you alone: https://www.revolut.com/en-NZ/metal/

Why do you tbink this is a dosh security issue and not other types of fraud? Like account creds stolen ?

How were Google so certain that is was a fraudulent payment? I'm not suggesting it wasn't - I am interested in how Google could be so certain that it was, as that implies there was some definite sign / evidence.

Do you have any indication, either directly or through your discussions with Dosh or Google, how or from where the fraudulent transactions are being initiated?

For example, are they 'online' merchants?

If they are online is it possible that your credentials have leaked somehow? Have you tried changing them (I am guessing that's the first thing that Dosh / Google would have asked you to do - interesting if not, as there does not seem to be any downside to doing that).

  • Good points, Alan6984!
