Google are having a pre black friday sale on their recently released tech.

  • Pixel 9: Priced at $649 USD (down from $799 USD), which is approximately $1,092 NZD.

  • Pixel Watch 3 (41mm Wi-Fi): Priced at $279 USD (down from $349 USD), around $470 NZD (the larger 45mm watch is also on sale).

  • Pixel Buds Pro 2: Priced at $229 USD (down from $299 USD), which is about $384 NZD.

Total for all three items: $1,944 NZD + GST $292 + Customs Fee $94 + NZ Post Fee $63 + Dangerous Goods $150 = $2,543 (+ shipping)

The equivalent product line up from Apple is the iPhone 16 $1600, Apple Watch 10 $750 and the Airpods Pro 2 $480 = $2,830

Change your VPN location to the US and order from amazon.com using NZ Post's YouShop US address. Google Store doesn't ship to New Zealand yet and they will block the payment if you use an NZ bank (they don't accept bitcoin yet).

NZ Post/YouShop will receive the delivery for you in the US and then charge you 15% Goods and Services Tax (GST), shipping fees and additional customs fees. The exact shipping cost will be determined once they receive the package, where they can consolidate and weigh your items to provide a final estimate. Shipping air freight (8-12 days delivery) is $31 per kg and sea freight (85-125 days) is $24 per kg.

These items shouldn't attract any additional tarrifs/duties from NZ Government other than the 15% GST but they do charge a fee to do the paperwork. Expect an NZ Customs Fee of NZ$93.45 (Inc. GST) & NZ Post Admin Fee = NZ$63.25 (Inc. GST)

Unfortunately it looks like there's an additional fee of $150 for lithium ion batteries because they are considered dangerous, and they might only be allowed on sea freight. The significant administrative handling fees involved means this deal is really only available to those who can afford to order bulk items, it doesn't make sense if you're just ordering 1 phone.

Customs Number

All parcels valued over NZ$1,000.00 require a Customs Number (or Client Code for NZ commercial entities) from NZ Customs.

To apply for a Customs Number complete the NZCS 224-A Application form. Email the completed form and a copy of your photo ID to [email protected]. You will receive your Customs Number back by email which should be provided to NZ Post via our You Shop form."

Application Form: NZCS 224-A

Cool, but no warranty? If you're using Youshop, won't they charge you even more because all three items contain batteries? Seems like a lot of money to spend for a rather average phone.

    • The new iPhone starts at $1600 and the Pixel 9 in my opinion is better and it's $1255 in this sale. If someone was already looking at the Pixel's then they would appreciate this sale, it's hard to get these phones in NZ near the retail price in the US.

    • I mean if you ship it back to the US it will likely get repaired but remember their consumer laws are quite bad so you will need to go-to Google rather than Amazon.
Heard of people getting a TV and on day two it fails but they force the customer to go via the manufacturer.

Just get the phone only for 1279 from bextec, saves messing around with youshop and vpn and unknown shipping etc

  • +4

Am I the only one who thinks that’s an insane price ?

Samsung gut the prices on their phones and google usually do the same but pixel 9 hasn’t dropped in price like 8/7/6 did …. And that’s even buying through a store like Noel Leeming

I paid <$1k for my pixel 7 nzd, have prices really gone up that much?

    • +1

Prices of everything have gone up, Burgerfuel, Xbox Series X I got ours for $699 when it came out and there were serious stock issues, it's now $850

      • +3

Xbox Series X's were $899 at Launch, and you'd be lucky to have found one at that price for at least a year to a year and a half given all of the scalpers. No idea where you got one for $699, perhaps you mean Series S?

I will agree, prices are going up everywhere - but that claim with the console is just inaccurate

        • +1

$799 at launch for Series X. Preordered one in Sept 2020

          • @JamesA25: Whoops, my mistake. I preordered one too and realised my error after posting.

Regardless, you'd have been lucky at the time to be able to get a preorder in and if you missed that boat you'd be looking at well over 1k.

  • Does anyone know if the Pixel 9 will have the same VoWIFI/VoLTE issues that the rest of the Pixel line do in NZ? My P5 is great until I need to make a call at which point it turns into a time machine that routes calls through the year 2009.

    • +2

My P7P has had 5G, VoWiFi and VoLTE for awhile now.
With Contact mobile on the Vodafone network

    • I've had P6 and now P8 Pro and haven't had either.

    • Have P7 Japan version with no issues with anything you've mentioned

    • only the pixels without the tensor chip have that issue.

      • Pixel 7 was 4g only for a while until some ota fixed it

Going through youshop makes this a bad deal. Freakin toy that weighed less than 1kg as big as a jordan sneaker box, $350nzd is what they wanted me to pay. The toy was us$30. I just let it go and get them to bin it.

youshop is abomination. used 3 times (unfortunately). never again.

    • Paid over $90 shipping for a $20 YZY product. Myus.com seems to have much better rates than YouShop.

  • I thought we have to pay 15%GST because of the new law? Not anymore???that's good

    • Yes you will have to pay 15% GST + Customs & NZ Post fees.

  • +2

Really good deal until it involved youshop

  • Youshop makes this a terrible deal, especially because it contains a lithium battery and they will charge you a dangerous good fee, and will only send via sea mail.. so good luck getting your item this year.

    • Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I can understand why they would only offer sea freight for lithium batteries, but charging an extra $150 for the paperwork because they're "dangerous" is crazy high. Electronics with lithium batteries must be one of the most common thing people are buying. Since it's a flat fee the deal still makes sense for people buying multiple products in the sale or shopping as a group. But I agree the NZ bureaucracy admin fees make this sale out of reach for most people.
