Get 75L of Fuel (50L+25L from Referral) When You Join Z Electric @ Z

160

hi, this could be long run or bug?

I used z energy before and I know it is open term and offers free fuel for new joiner. When my existing power finishes, I thought it would be good to get the free 50L fuel in 2 weeks before switching to another provider.

The existing z energy refer link is not working and I could not find any information about it. However, I STILL tried to manually put the refer code during the registration process and I got 25L extra fuel after 2 weeks.

The refer code is anything after /refer/ from the cheapies refer system.

You can find the screenshot below.

Excellent discovery. The referral has been disabled for a while now.

  • So what do I have to do to get the 75L I’m an existing share tank user

    • Use the referal link and use z electric. They are a bit more expensive for me but 75l is a massive bonus

  • Great find. We are already with them and the free 50l was a good bonus. Wonder if cancelling my account and signing up under my partner would get the bonus. Would it go off address or name?

    • What I did was I canceled and then went to flick for 2 months and then I came back to Z power under my partners name. Got the bonus.

    • Would it go off address or name?

This is only a guess, but I would think it would be name, since you could move out, someone completely new moves in, and they would be able to sign up anew, even though with the same address / ICP(s).

  • does it cost anything to cancel and switch provider? as it looks like frank energy has the cheapest daily and kw rates
is there a min term on joining them?
im new to the country ill be in welly 😅

does it cost anything to cancel and switch provider?

I have never been charged to switch, and often you can get about $200 of credit when you switch providers and sign up for, say, 24 months.

it looks like frank energy has the cheapest daily and kw rates

Make sure you shop around, and don't just go with what someone else tells you - the pricing can vary literally street to street (presumably different electric grids), so just because one provider is cheapest for one location, doesn't mean they will be for any other location.

is there a min term on joining them?

Often 12 months, but that can vary too - best to always check each one. Also check if that affects what credit you might get on signing up.''

There are some that are open term as well (likely you won't get a credit with them of course).

Be careful with sharetank. They suspended mine and when i asked for a reason they gave me a generic T&C where they can suspend without reason if they 'suspect'. No comeback with Consumer Protections as they are now owned by AMPOL Energy.

No comeback with Consumer Protections as they are now owned by AMPOL Energy.

How does being owned by AMPOL Energy get them out of the CGA?

      • Trust me… still arguing… Have to go through Aussie version of it… which wont help because its based in New Zealand.

I'm really surprised that an interaction with Z (ShareTank) in NZ has to be handled under Australian laws, regardless of whether it is the CGA or Fair Trading Act (depending if this was a consumer or business account).

Z is a New Zealand company. Ownership should be irrelevant - same as any other NZ company that might be owned wholly or partially by a foreign individual or entity.

Does the contract that you agreed to stipulate that it is to be handled under Australian law?

          • @Alan6984: Nope, but if you read it… Its at their discretion.

            • @Sharetank Dude:

Nope, but if you read it… Its at their discretion.

Wow! I'd suggest reporting that to Trading Standards - I would have thought it's at least borderline if not way over for a New Zealand company, trading in New Zealand, to be able to choose unilaterally that disputes are handled in a foreign jurisdiction.

    • Did they catch you spoofing :O

How much have you got in the suspended account still?

      • About 100L give or take…

        • +1

          Ouch.
Here’s hoping you get access to it
          Good luck.

Would you be able to talk to your bank and do chargeback then?

    • +1

Any reason why you think they suspended it ?

      • Waiting on their final response first.

        • Do update us! As most of us would have 100L if not more, we'd be curious

does anyone know how good / bad these rates typically end up being?

    Solar power exported

    Solar buy-back:

    Wholesale power rate*/kWh

*Wholesale power rates are a variable rate that changes every 30 minutes.

    • The rates for me in Northland are actually really good - you also get 5 liters of fuel for every $100 spent on electricity. And you can choose fuel type, so i get 95. If you look at 95 at approx $2.75 a litre, thats $13.75 worth of fuel for every $100.

I ran a bit of a spreadsheet exercise when I signed up, and even applying (for example) a $200 sign on bonus over 24 months with other providers with higher rates, this was the better deal all round.

The rates for west coast is really good for me aswell, I think for us they are the second cheapest just behind flick which is owned by Z anyway.

  • Im not following, are you using your own refferal link? Or just taking a code from the cheapies site.

Definitely a great company, prices have never seemed over inflated.

    • +1

I used the refer code from cheapies site

  • Does Z power supports manual meters. Any experiences ? Still got the old meter.

    • Not supported last year when I considered putting a family member who had an old meter with them

  • So is the referral system links no longer valid? Shall I change the referral type to a coupon type?

    • Maybe we could, from fuzzfighter comment above, we have another user confirmed this?

      • I have converted to coupon just now. There were only 3 entries in the system, I've purged the referral so the 3 users will need to re enter their codes again

  • Sorry if I am a little thick here, so what should be the correct URL to have the /refer/ included correctly?

The Cheapies referral button on top now only gives a code. I've tried pasting it to the "Promo code" blank at the sign up application page but it doesn't seem to respond. Not sure if that is the right place to paste in a referral code?

I have also tried an old referral link from an old email, the site address is not the newer
    " z.power.co.nz ", but instead
    " zelectric.z.co.nz/refer/xxxx "
So that didn't seem to work either…

    Need guidance 🙏

yes, put it under promo code field at the sign up application page is correct. That's how I get the 75l fuel.

      • Thank you @baishishun !

Does it have to be a valid current existing customer/referrer of Z Power, or can I just input any words?

I see only 2 names in the Cheapies referrer database circulating.

        • I m not too sure about this. I remember when I sign up
2 or 3 weeks ago there were a lot refer code(or my memory was bad?)
