Sony WH1000-XM4 Wireless Headphones $299.99 @ Costco Westgate (Membership Required)

190

I don’t usually share Costco deals due to the Auckland exclusive and requiring a Costco card to access, however this is the cheapest I’ve seen for these great headphones.

Image attached for possible price match. It’s not on their website.

  • I would imagine price match would be a tall task considering Costco has a membership fee

    • Agreed. There are some retailers in the area that will pricematch (Noels/JB), but its probably a bit hit and miss further away.

I got JB Christchurch to price match iPhone 15 pro with Costco last year Black Friday - pretty cheeky

Don't get the XM4s, they suck imo.

Less comfy than the XM3s because of a stronger clamping force and the improvement over the XM3 isn't that much. XM5s are way more comfy, but not foldable (due to new design) and the NC on it is now dynamic and so it adjusts itself based on the situation and you can't change this (at least when I last checked a few months ago), so it sucks as well.

Would recommend getting the Bose Quietcomfort for $50 more. It has the best NC so far out of all of them, is still foldable and is light and comfortable. Just much better value. A couple of reviews online also point to the Bose Quietcomfort having better NC. And I do agree. Having owned WF-1000XM3/4/5 and WH-1000XM3/4/5 and Bose QC 45 and Bose QC 35 II and Bose Quietcomfort and a Technics AZ80, I wouldn't recommend going for the Sonys anymore. The WH-1000XM3 was great back in the day but the newer generations are kinda MEH. That's just my personal opinion.

    • Yeah, I'd agree (also having owned XM4, XM5 and the new QC). Bose Quietcomfort have superior comfort and noise cancelling. They regularly go for $349 on special so could be even ~$300 for Black Friday.

I am looking to pick up some Bose QC this black Friday or Xmas.
I tried them all (XM4, XM5, QC, QC Ultra) at JB HiFi and liked the QC the best in terms of comfort.
To me, the Sony were a head in NC with the store set up but comfort wise the Bose was hands down better.

    • I went from QC15s to the XM4s and I'm mixed. The NC is better, but the QC's were noticeably more comfortable. I'll probably go back to Bose if I replace the XM4s any time soon.

Thanks for posting - $299 is a very good price point for XM4

  • Buying decent noise cancelling headphones was one of my best decisions. Just be careful at night it can make you less aware but they have a ambient sound mode where it will playback the outside sound into your ear so its as if you're not wearing headphones.

I walk down queen st everyday and I hear none of the solicitors, religious preachers, addicts etc. Brought me some peace.

People seem to be pretty harsh on the XM4s but I’m happy with my pair.
I’ve tried XM5’s on in store but they just didn’t seem to fit me as well and not folding was kind of annoying - the XM4 case is pretty compact in my bag.
I think the noise-cancelling is great and I preferred the sound of the XM4s to the QC SE (essentially QC45s) that I had but sold. I listen mainly just to rock and pop so nothing fancy and the bass was better.
The QC’s are lighter and probably would be more comfortable if wearing for a long stretch but the XM4’s are fine for my use case, commuting and then around the office (so often on and off with meetings etc rather than wearing them straight for hours). On the other hand, that did make them feel a bit plasticky and lightweight, the solidity of the Sonys is reassuring to me.
