Suggestions for Large-format Portable speaker - a la UE Hyperboom ??

Last year I was quite tempted to get a large portable speaker to replace my UE Boom, and really liked the Hyperboom, but never bought it.

I know it's large , but it's still classed as portable.

RRP on that is approx $600, although a new version is released with Powerbank capability, for $700

IIRC last Black Friday / Christmas time it come down to about the $350 mark, and if it does again then I'll be more than tempted this time around. Even if it's the non-USB-C Powerbank version.

BUT… are there any other comparable options out there, that people have used / recommend, for this $$ range & spec??

  • Not quite at the same level as HyperBoom, but glanced these Philips speakers today. Normally $179 each down to $98 each. You can link two together:

    • I have 2 of these. They are very average. I don't even bother playing music on them (the sound is awful) but for podcasts they're acceptable.

  • Go to rtings.com and look at reviews. They seem to really like the JBL Boombox 3. I recently picked up a JBL Authentics 500 for home and really like it.

    • Thanks. Going through their reviews I see there is a new speaker at a slightly lower price point, the Epic Boom.

I'll keep an eye out for deals on this one.. could be a good alternate option.

      • I think there's a version of the Boombox 3 with Wifi as well which is handy for home use. I liked my UE Boom 3 but found around the home bluetooth was very limiting when using multiple devices as you have to pair and unpair every time when using a different device, not to mention all your phones audio going through it. But the portability was great.

        • PB Tech have a good Black Friday deal on the EpicBoom… $477 down to $298… almost 40% off. Available at local store for immediate pick-up.

          Sold.

I'll admit, the thing that put me off the Hyperboom was the size and weight, so this is the next best option in the UE range.
