Advice for signups and deals for babies

Hi,

I have a 3 month old
She already has a IRD number, email, and phone number.

Just hoping for any advice on any other things I can start for her and get a good deal on.

I know some banks do new account sign up bonuses so waiting for something good to come up.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joseph

  • Get the best start payment
Only sharesies did a kid bonus but they ended that. Dont if any bonuses for kids since that.

  • +9

This may sound silly, but a major investment that will pay dividends and won't cost you a cent is to read to her all the time, every day. It's never too early to start.
This will give her a major head start when it comes to starting school. The more you read to her the more she'll want it and the earlier she'll want to learn to read too.
Plus it's some lovely one on one time for the both of you.

  • Facebook Marketplace for baby stuff. Hardly ever bought new. A lot of cots, cribs, cosleepers, playpens, prams and clothes that are barely used because they grow out of them so fast.

Babycity were good for clearance stuff, as were Farmers if you get them at the right time. Especially fitted sheets for your cribs and cosleepers.

And then you can sell them on for similar prices.

  • Investments in their name will have lower tax, but afaik it could be seen to be tax avoidance depending on how you do that. When they turn 18 it'll be their money to control if that was your plan.

Quite easy to handle kid's accounts on bank/investment platforms as they're attached to adult accounts.

Huggies nappies are cheapest when on rebate at costco. Treasures nappies from countdown not bad (at one point was 40% off).

The most expensive thing is daycare, but that's a whole debate in itself.

    • Yeh, daycare. Generally can't get any deals with that. In fact, it'll cost you MORE in the long run because when your child is sick (and they WILL be sick), you're still charged even though they're at home.

  • Awesome thank you so much for all the great advice!!!
