  • So tempted… we use our smaller one all the time…. only problem is we live rural and something this big would require $400 odd each summer to get water in.

I really want to get one of the Bestway Heatpumps for the pool to make the season a little longer.. they were $900 here but now they are like $1500 ><.

I went in first thing this morning in case they noticed and changed the price.
Had to really push as the manager tried to say they only price match specials. Asked him to come down and show me where it says it in the terms and conditions. He couldn't find anything to fall back on so gave in but was very sour about it. Was disappointing as I've always had good service from them.
We've had the smaller ones and they are decent, but the mushroom pumps are a bit weak. This should be good with the more powerful sand filter setup.

  • Does this one need to be fenced?

Grey area. If its not near a climbable structure and you don't use the ladder, it technically shouldn't need one being 1.22 high, but as soon as you add the ladder in you do.
Would advise to check local bylaws to confirm as they can vary.

It's not grey. It requires a barrier if it can hold more than 40cm depth of water which this one can.
        The height is irrelevant.

        Pools that require a barrier

        • I think you are looking in the wrong section.

You want this "Above ground pools – there are some situations where the walls of a pool can form the barrier to the pool. These are explained in acceptable solution F9/AS1 section 2.3.1. However, any ladder used to access a pool with 120cm sides must have an enclosing barrier around it, and the pool barrier requires a building consent." And for the ladder comment you can just remove the ladder when not in use.

2.3.1 The outside face of a pool wall is an
acceptable barrier if it is no less than 1200 mm
high and complies with Paragraphs 2.1.6 and
2.1.7. Any ladder or other means of providing
access to the pool shall have an enclosing
barrier and gate complying with 2.1 and 3.1.

@Jizah: This is my understanding, but again would encourage people to check their local bylaws before purchasing.

    • We got picked up by aerial survey with ours in Auckland. Got the inspectors in, the height is fine as a barrier, but if you have a ladder it has to be behind a self closing fence that can’t be climbed.

You can do a small barrier just around the ladder or the whole pool. It used to be that a removable ladder complied, but because people leave them in, that rule was removed.

There’s a couple of good photos on the council website.

  • They have dropped the advertised price to match the Warehouse.

Couple of tips for anyone who picks up one of these for the summer - the ground has to be flat and level.

Any slope and you put pressure on one end, and you can’t fill it as high. I put timber down under the legs for stability. Basically framed out the whole area.

The pump is not strong enough for a vacuum, you will need a powered vacuum. It is good though, pretty easy to manage and I would say better than the paper filter ones that come with the smaller pools.

You can put it up with one person, but two is much better.

I bought a thermal bubble wrap style cover, and cut to fit. Easier to put on than the cover that comes with it, it floats on the surface, so much more likely to put it back on and keep debris out.

You can buy an Intex skimmer that should work. Easier to get leaves off the surface than from the bottom of the pool.

    • I'll also add if you put these on grass, the grass will completely die. And the smell that dead grass creates when the pool is removed is like something I have never experienced before. So I would suggest not installing it right beside your bedroom window like I did!
